Air Pump?

Can someone tell me what the air pump does? I was having a look last night and it looks like someone has removed it along with the a/c compressor....great!!!!

it pumps air into the exhaust convertor to "re burn" the exhaust gasses to reduce emisions. If you don't have an air pump its highly likely you have an aftermarket exhaust. They are quite commmon as full exhaust from mazda costs about £1500 !

If you car hasn't got a compressor for aircon it probably never had it ... It wasn't a very common option in the UK
