Hello all, hoping someone can help me out with my query. I have been considering purchasing an RX7 for about a year now but the only thing that was holding me back was the fuel economy. Since my 93' 325i coupe gives back about 20mpg anyway Ive decided Im tired of being killed by 330ci's and the like.
Ok babbling over here is my question. I have heard that when accelerating off the line with an auto RX7 the turbo only kicks in sometime afterward hence it can prove "dangerous" I read this on a user review on edmunds.com Does any one else own an auto RX who can either agree/ reject this claim. Also if this is the case will I realistically be able to take out those pesky M3's and 330s with my auto box at the lights?

Hi Mate,
whoever told you that story is talking nonsense.
The turbo operation on an auto is no different to a manual.
I have a an auto, and off the line you have the pause same as in any auto, but I find by the time I hit the the redline in first I'm ahead of the have a go hero.

I have 2 manuals and 1 auto and the turbo kicks in the same on all of them.

Yep gotta an auto as well and no they are not dangerous and yes it will eat and kill M3s belive me I know from experience, and the only mod on mine is a Blitz cat back exhaust so all round pretty standard. The boss at work has a M3 he has driven mine and was totally gutted when he got out of it; said something on the lines of all the money he paid for his beemer and it's slower than the RX,never mind can't win em all.

Sounds good Gary,
Look forward to hearing more about the special project
once thats up and running.
I just been to see my mate Erdin whose running in his bridge ported rx7 he's got XS turbo can't remember what one but the biggest apparently. Engine sounds absolutely awesome, but it's still being run in so I didn't get a road test :(
If anyones going Japfest next week or 10 of the best you'll see it there.

Thanks for the input people, it must have been an M3 owner who posted that review then! My search for the perfect RX continues...
