Erp.
Thought I ought to check out my compression tester before selling it. Only installed engine is the 12A in my series 2. Warmed it up, plugged in the tester. Tester works fine. BUT, my 12A is 70PSI on all 6 faces. AKA borderline......
Now rebuilds cost. I have a set of ported plates ready to go, but I also have a brand new never been used series V turbo block. As I was planning EFI and a custom manifold anyway wouldn't be any more work than I had planned on it anyways. Run it in, get it ported and should have a nice 200BHP.

13b into the MK2 1st gen ???
you'll need
1. modified sump to clear the cross member or a GSL-SE one from the states
2. either a modded 12a coverplate or a GSL-SE front plate from the USA or custom engine mounts as the 1st gen engines mounted on the front cover
3. new exhaust system (proably needed one anyhow)
www.rx7club.com has a good write up in the 1st gen archive on swapping a 13b into a 1st gen too
oh yeh, don't forget the 13b turbo motor will be a low compression one too, that'll hurt the power :(

1. Man with mig
2. Have toasted 12As => mounts
3. System? Why. Just needs modded header as already has janspeed system on it.
Series V was 9:1 CR. more than adequate. I also have some 6-port rotors I could shove in. IR TBs make up through breathing for whatever CR loses.

you'll need a Tig for the sump as Mig welders produce porous welds which will leak
the front mount needs moving forawrds by 20mm's to account for the bigger engine too
Sounds like the 13B might be a good idea

MIG TIG SCHMIG. Whatever :-)
Point is I feel bad about not building a 200HP 12A due to lack of funds.

have you forgotten to turn the gas on? with the right set up you can mig pretty much anything....

not me personally , but i have been advised that Mig is not a good idea for anything that has to contain fluid as the welds are porous, somthing to do with the wire feed not being as acurate as a guy with a tig set and filler wire
Just going on what I have been told on more than one occasion by several different people.

mig will only be porous if there is something contaminating the weld. i miged the sump on my chevy v8 sump when i put it in a vauxhall:cool

Arguament may be moot. Revlimiter has banned me getting any more engines, so I have to use the known good one.
I'm gutted :-)

does that mean you have a spare 13b turbo 2?

Not quite. But I could be possibly persuaded to swap it for a rebuild 12A (or a rebuild on a 12A).

As for the exhaust: headers will do, but obviously you'll only get the full potential if you go full system.
Sump: you can order a GSL-SE sump from the local Mazda dealer. All you need is the part number, and that again, you can find on the Mazdatrix page. It might be easier to simply order a GSL-SE pan then to modify one.
Front cover for 12A's should be cheap as can be (=free).
You'll need to modify the bracket, but that won't be too hard.
