Just had a chat with the neighbour and it turns out his turbos are kaput and it looks like a full engine rebuild is in the pipeline as well. He has had a chat with Tim at RX motors to confirm this but he has asked me to post this on his behalf, can anyone advice on how much he is looking at for the whole job to be done and do you think he should shop around for the Turbos or just get it fixed all in one. Also I think he is thinking of going for a single turbo set up but is not sure if it would help performance can anyone advice (good or bad points).Any advice would be most helpful oh by the way it's a 3rd gen import on a K plate.Cheers Leigh.

Hi Leigh,
for rebuilt engine and turbos I would expect to pay around £3,250 as a rough figure. A single turbo would help performance no end, only thing though with the increased flow to engine you would need a aftermarket ecu to supply enough fuel for the mixture. The stock intercooler would be probably of no use with a single turbo also, so you would need an intercooler also. which then adds cost on top of engine rebuild.. Oh and injectors might be running at their maximum with single turbo install, definetly with a upgraded intercooler as well. If you want to go single be prepared to fork out a bit on other essentials as some stated above, but the rewards would be seccond to none, as long as you don't get a turbo thats too big as you won't be getting much below 5,000 rpm so turbo size is important. The other advantage of going single is you can then eliminate a lot of the hard to diagnose boost issues that can occur with a stock twin turbo.
Cooler engine bay which is always good for a rotary. I think whatever Tim's price is for the work will be very competitive.

Cheers mate for the info, I think it's best to tell him he's in for a very expensive time alround which ever way he goes. I think he told me Tim had offered him a larger intrcooler and suggested the single turbo option. Feel a bit sorry for the guy, the RX he bought had a rebuild just before he bought it and it looks like it's gone already when I spoke to him last night he looked absoultly devistated not very nice when you are faced with a large outlay of cash. Also adviced him to let his car warm up and spool down when he is using it, with him living down the road from me I have noticed he just turns the key and he is on his way without letting it warm up. Cheers again Leigh.
