Staring at the pile of bits of 12A I have lying around the garage last night I started plotting an EFI upgrade, but thought this time I ought to do something that others could copy.

There are a number of ways of going about this, from the skinflint to the nice shiny IDA depeding upon HP requirements, wallet depth and abilities with power tools. You could certainly do the whole thing for £100 if you knew where to look.

So just wondering which approach would cause the most interest

somewhere in the middle I would have thought :)

What exactly are you planning ?

Not sure yet. I was all up for dropping a call to one of the australian purveyors of IDA stuff for 12As and then noticed that the manifolds on a 12A appear to be cast for the US centre plates not the nice big euro ones. I've got 3 manifolds, 4 4-bbl carbs and a pair of Rover 214 45mm throttle bodies lying around so figured there was some easy and free experimenting to do.

So I could strip out the Carb, bore out the venturis and mill down the spindles, but that's quite a lot of work. Or I could Make an adaptor out of a lump of something (Plastic chopping boards are quite good for this) and bolt the Rover throttle body on. Either of those with a ported manifold 'SHOULD' flow enough for 160HP perhaps more and be basically free if you have access to a die grinder (I can get an almost infinite supply of the Rover TBs).

Injector mounting could be interesting, but I have plenty of options on the notepad.

My ideal would be a set of fireblade or similar throttle bodies giving a true individual runner setup, but these are becoming harder to find at the right price. A year ago £100 would get you injectors, TBs fuel rail etc.

Injection control will either be my trusty megasquirt or one of the GM units.

Many options, little time. Better that than the other way around :-)
