Adam, I beleive that you can put 1308cc on the document.
You can quote from a Mazda Manual if you like as the engine is 1308cc as printed in the manuals. (take a copy of the page from a manual). iluvmyrx7.com (http://www.iluvmyrx7.com) has a number of online documents you could use.

I have just received my documents back from the DVLA after trying to re-register my FD as a 1.3ltr.
They have told me to go away. Until I can get a letter from Mazda, they will class it as a 2.6ltr. :(
Not a happy boy as I have to pay £160 road tax tomorrow.

It tells you the correct engine size in the sales leaflets ... is that good enough for the DVLA ?

Can anyone shed any light on this? I spoke to Mazda UK, and although they said it is technically a 1.3, the DVLA have said it has to be a 2.6 because its a rotary engine?

The Engine displaces 1.3 litres but unlike a piston engine it fires both chambers every revolution of the ecentric shaft (crank) this means a 1.3 litre rotary is comparable to a 2.6 litre 4 stroke piston engine as said piston engine will only fire 1/2 its cylinders in 1 revolution of the crank (due to the 4 stroke principal)

P.S
There was also a post a while back with a quote from the DVLA saying that anyone caught trying to bypass the system by registering a car as 1308cc's will be made to pay tax retrospectively (spelling?)

Sorry, i meant that I know how different people class it as a 1.3 or 2.6, but how could the DVLA justify calling it a 2.6 when mazda have said its a 1.3. Ah well, never mind
