I'm considering to buy a rx7 3'rd gen. But I'm from Norway. The only problem is that it costs a small fortune to import a car with some bhp. Is it possible to diable the turbo and still drive the car? If it is is it much work?

hi
this all sounds a bit strange. are you saying it costs more to import a 300bhp car than a 100bhp car in your country?
if you took the turbos off and put on a n/a exhaust wouldnt the people your trying to kid know something was up anyway?
"how fast can you aford to go"
more money=more power
if it costs more money to import a fast car then i think youll have to swollow the cost or buy a slow car
to change the manifold is a big job on that engine

I don't need to remove the turbo. Just disable. Then fix it when the import part is over. Is there not any easy way to disable the turbo? Maybe make it look like it's broken? About the cost... take a sum of 9000 eur and multiply with 2,5 then you've got the sum it cost to import a car with 177kw into Norway. And it's cost much more if i'll buy a car like an rx7 in Norway. About 36.000 euro.
Of course i'll try to save money if possible. I'll be stupid if I didn't.
So any hint/tips would be great....

is the car going to be checked on a dyno for hp ?
if its not then you wont have to make it produce less hp
if they know what the car is then they will know what hp its supposed to have.
you seem to be saying that if it is not running how it should with full boost that will be ok. the problem is the turbo is a mechanical device driven by burnt gas. the only way to stop it working would be to jam the turbine but im sure this will damage something and i wouldnt recomend you do that.
without knowing what the import test is in your country i dont think any one can help. there might be a sencer or two you could disconnect but that would mess up things like fueling or timing and thats not a good idea on that engine.
sorry mate

Hi Trond,
The only thing I can think of would be to have a BOV fitted, which just bypasses air from the compressor of the turbo into the atmosphere.
Problems:
1. You will hear a very loud gush of air coming from the engine bay.
2. and as Jason has mentioned the ECU will probably get confused and run really rich or lean etc.
I don't think it would do any damage, the engine will still produce quite a lot of power i.e. much more than 100hp.

thanks. It's only a few hours that I have to disable the turbo and I don't think the engine will be damaged from that. It will only be a short distance from a to b. But again thanks for the tips. It helps...
