Hi,
I want to buy a 3rd gen rx& in black but am having trouble finding a uk one, so im thinking about buying an import. The trouble is my dad and mates say not to get one as they cost a lot more to fix and its very hard to get the parts. So i was wondering how much are they to service compared to a uk one, are the parts very expensive and take ages to get hold of. Are there placers that will work service and modify the engine. and will UK tuning parts like induction kits dump valves etc fit onm a jap model, or will i have to import the bits from japan.
Any help would be appriciated.
Thanks

Hi Matt,
There is no difference in cost of parts as they are the same, tey are not diffuclt to get hold of because they are the same. They are not more expensive to work because they are the same. The only extra expense between an import and a uk spec is import cost more to insure.

Hi, cheers for the info mate. Is that the same for all jap import cars or just rx7's. Are the standard parts already in the engine the same as a UK one, i thought that the jap ones had different part.

Hi Matt,
Not all Jap cars are the same as uk spec. Even the rx7. If you get a 92-95 jap rx7 there the same as uk. If you get a 96-98 the rear lights are different and on some models the rear spoiler, if you get a 99 onwards spec the rear soiler the front end are different. Undre the engine bay all is more or less the same. The 99 spec onwards had smaller turbo blades and different seals, but basically the parts you may need for a 99 onwards rx7 is just as easy to get over here as a uk spec one. You must bear in mind that there are more jap spec rx7's in the UK than actual UK spec rx7's.

Hi,
So basically if i got an import, the engine bits are the same as a uk one, so there shouldnt be any problems getting parts if something goes wrong and getting it serviced??
also is the fuel consumption the same?

Yep it's all the same and fuel consumption is the same also.

Matt, the only major difference is that unlike the UK model, you have to run it on Super/Optimax fuel. As these imports are designed to run on 100RON fuel.

Matt, you could map it to run on 95RON, but you will loose power.
These cars when on boost require as good a fuel as you can give it. I run mine on Optimax with octane booster, just for safety.
Mine is a UK, with a de-cat down and mid pipe, but still keeping the OE backbox until I sort the ECU out.

Hi,
Just run optimax in it.
I do get annoyed when people say that import parts are hard to find!!! there are so many about now and a large following of most Imports making them easy to fix/maintain. Also if your worried about the price of fuel a suggest you get a diesel car not a <20 mpg RX7 :) like any high performance car they drink the fuel. Have you looked into the repair/servicing costs?
Adam.

yeah i live right by vehicle buyers japan, and they can service it for about 250-300, im gonna buy one thats allready had a bit done to it so this will save me a lot of money each month so i should be able to run it and service it ok. Has anyone every bought one form veilside uk they seem to have some good prices with good mileage.

Not realy thought about the grade of fuel to use and since I bought my 3rd gen at Christams, I haven't been useing Optomax. Sounds likeI should have and will from now on if it's better.
As I have been using lower octane for three months will this have resulted anything other than lower performace?
