Hey guys.
I've been searching all over this thread, and it's so hard to work out what is a good quote and what isn't. even the same company seems to change it's figures daily.
could anyone, based on their experiences, give me a rough idea as to what is an acceptable premium?
I'm 23 (but will be 24 when insuring the car), no points etc, but also no NCD...and, critically, only been driving for 6 months.
car i'm looking at has stage 1 mods, and a bodykit fitted as well. i realise the wallet-denting is gonna be epic...but i don't wanna be taken to the cleaners! as soon as i finalise the spec of the rex i want i'll be working through the sticky thread! fun fun!
thanks to anyone who can help.:)

Most people will simply refuse, but if you do find one it will be a lot!
Probably about 3.5k at a guess from my renewal quotes

yeah...although elephant were looking promising, until i mentioned it was a) jap and b) modified!
was quoted £2300 fully comp (£250 excess) for a uk-spec model with bodykit, wheels and exhaust.
however, i was also quoted £1700 for a UK-spec supra (325bhp etc) with the same mods. eh?
nonetheless, i'm gonna keep trying! would work out even more to get a runaround and insure that also! what kind of difference does it make if you are using v few miles?
thanks!

I think you know its gonna be 2.5 to 4k
UK car might lower your premium but I've never tried so don't know

Whats cars have you driven til now?
FORGET mods, insurance will be nothing short of rape at your age with no driving history. Get a stock car cheap if you can insure it and get used to high power RWD. Then when you're a couple of years older and have a bit of proven 'not driving like a ****' history behind you, sell the car (shouldnt wont lose) and by a mod'd one. Or buy a Supra :D
Good luck.

hi mate, good luck to the insurance,
i have a FC3S TII, and have 2yearsNCB now and still pay just shy of £900 (F@#K f@#k f@#k :reallymad :reallymad ), and thats for TPFT, but fully comp would cost 1500, and i plan to do that when i renew, currently i am 22 and have been driving for over 5 years, and only have 3 points, SP50, and no other bad records, (SP50 was not on the REX, was from the car which i had just before)
so when i turn 23 and time for renewal i would be 23, 6years driving, 3yearsNCB, and would be expecting low £1k for the premium. maybe its the area i live in!! :(
good luck, patrick

well to be honest i've never driven anything like an FD, in fact i've never driven a RWD car. a good friend has an E46 M3 CSL which i'm hoping to take for a spin or two. quickest car i've driven was a modified astra sxi (was making close to 200bhp, weighed as much as a tin of beans) which frankly scared me witless. but that was the very first car i drove! :)
getting a stock rex is probably the best thing for me, but it's a case of want want want i guess. realistically i'd be better of getting a runabout for a year and a bit (til i'm 25) but i've been quite fortunate financially of late, and i'm worried that by the time i'm 25 i'll have squandered the FD funds on a flat or something!
on the bright side, the area i live in has the lowest insurance code.
anyway, thanks for all the input guys! :)

That must be a good friend to let you take 60k of CSL out! I wont even let my friends drive the RX7.
Most of em have been for a drive in the 200 though, but some of them are scared of that :p

Not a bad thing to invest in mate, its the reason i can afford all the mods i have planned for this year!!
I would seriously think about buying something a little cheaper to run and a little easier to drive get a year's experience behind you in RWD if poss and then going down the rex route. Don't get me wrong, would love to see another one in Scotland (their isn't enough!!) but for financial and more importantly safety reasons it probably better to get a little driving experience first. I had been driving for 10 years before i got my FD and it still took me a little while to get used too (of course i could just be crap!)
On the other side of things, what a car to have as your first!! :D

I know! it's swings and roundabouts! i get worried about the financial implications etc, then i think about just owning a rex and how great it'd be to have as a first car and i don't know what to do!
i've been talking to a couple of guys here about an advanced driving course organised through the club, i think i'd feel better if i knew i could enrol on something like that. i'm just waiting to get some contact details from Clive before i can find out more about it though.
we're hoping that it might even help members lower their insurance premium by tying it into the club in some way. fingers crossed!
