anyone know what the strange bell that sounds like a bicycle bell means in an 83 Mk III? the new addition seems to run fine (needs new pads at the front, but this bell thing goes off after its been driving for abour 10 mins. Not a buzzer like the change up warning, more like the 'lights on' warning bell, ding ding ding.... Also where is the bell as I want to get rid of it as it is driving me slightly insane! These are the things I have checked and faults I've identified.

1) oil level - fine there is a small leak at the connection to the oil
cooler
2) coolant - was a little low but fine now and no obvious leaks
3) front pads - v worn new pads on order

as far as we can tell thats it, engine is a little limpy need to get an idea on compression but was a total bargain considering she's a runner!

Still trying to work out what the car is;
GRP rear wing (looks like a TWR part)
light alloys silver with black inserts, much lighter than in the 84 we have
oil cooler - not present on the 84
single rear pipe - v loud looks to have a tiny silencer box

anyone know what this might b? the V5 only says 1983 RX7

anyway I'd be glad of any advice, anyone at Japfest will get to see the new beast there.

cheers
Mark

these wheels seem really light though:

yup its a standard MK2, they came with an oil cooler and those wheels. I always thought the Mk3 wheels were pretty light ... much lighter than most wheels (TBH Mazda did used to fit pretty good wheels as standard)

cheers, cause when I called up to get insurance one company told me the reg came up as a 1980 TWR conversion! However it is defo an 83 but the rear wing doesn't look standard.

Any idea on the bell thing?

not sure I've had the low coolant buzer go off before ... check the sensor on top of the rad, the wire gets pretty brittle as it gets hot (well duh :D)

the rear wing isn't standard, if it was down as TWR car i would have expected a bit more than just a wing, they used to do all sorts of bolt on bits.

looks a bit like the Elford wing that they used on their turbo conversion cars

Just a thought, but have you checked that the rear hatch is closing correctly? The tinkling bell somewher in the rear of my '84 drove me nuts for a while before I figured that the hatch wasn't 100% closed.
