I am an Welshman living in Cyprus, who received today a letter from the Road Transport Department regarding increasing the cost of Road Tax by 10 times from 56.00 euros a year to 514.00 euros per yearby reclassifying the 1308cc to 2616cc.
I am looking to see if anyone is organising a protest to the government, if so please let me know. I dont want to have to pay the 514.00 euros, if we can get something sorted.
Regards,
Falconer

Don't know what Cypriot law is like, but it might be worth contesting it??
What evidence have they got of it being a 2.6? It is a 1.3, and if you have enough letters from specialists engineers, then what can they do?
I wouldn't accept this....fight the cause!!

the reason why the rule has changed is because of the mass imports of the rx8s (and rx7s) from the UK. In uk the 13b is considerred 2.6 and they are following this "rule". It was in the papers a few months ago.
Imnot paying that difference either, we need to organise something

Yup - I'd be up in arms about it too! Ask the govt to demonstrate how the swept volume per revolution comes out to 2616cc....

I feel soory for you guys. To add insult to injury when the westfield was origionaly built with the 13b in it the builder had the foresight to register it on a Q plate and as a 1300cc so not only low tax(£125) but also no emmisions test. But I may end up paying the fuller amount when I get a FD:Grrr

Sorry In not replying sooner. It seems as though the rotary community here in Cyprus has been heard, at the moment with legal proceedings happening and the support of Stephanides (Mazda Franchise) here in Cyprus - we have managed to get a suspension on the Road Tax issue until the courts decide how they want to play the situation.
Mind you show how long the Cypriot departments take to get anything done. As the new rate was due to come in on the 1st Jan 2010 - A couple of days later went to the Department of Road Transport with my money and they charged me the old rate of 56 euros. So all we can do now is hope that the courts rule in our favour!

Until the legal proceedings have been sorted I think the online completion has been suspended. However when I paid mine it seems as though the Road Transport had not updated their systems. So still paid the old rate.

I dont see what is your point is to lie. I called the DMV and they said this is IMPOSSIBLE. When i asked you for your number plates to bring it up and pay what you paid you completely ignored me. Are you doing this for a specific reason?

Photo Taken on iPhone - Sorry for the poor quality.
R-R-RX7 - I would thank you for not calling me a liar:2Mad. If you read my previous post correctly, It would explain the whole situation.
During the first week of January 2010 the Department for Road Transport had not updated their computer systems, therefore still had the old rate on there. They finally updated their system on Monday 11th January to the new rate.
I did not complete the Road Tax online, but went to the Department of Road Transport Office in Aradippou Larnaca and got the Road Tax from their own office. As some others did in Limassol and Nicosia. As for giving out my Registration Plate number - I havent done this because I do not know, you. It amounts to the same thing as you asking me for my bank account number.
Usually I am an active member of the UK owners club - Where I am happy to help out with any queries, but your tone in the previous message makes me not want to help. I very rarely visit this forum, as I am usually on the UK owners club.

before you reply to this thread again, take a minute to think about what you gonna say. I asked nicely for the number plates of your car on a private message. If you felt uncomfortable you could have just said it. When i see you are coming online all this time, my message is being ignored and DMV tells me that what you say is a bunch of BS, i come to the conclusion that you are a liar. ANYHOW, I hope you are not a liar.
And as for giving me your " private information" PLEASE. Your number plates are on the car to be displayed. Your bank account on the other hand is kept privately from "scammers like me" according to what you want to infeer LOL. How could anyone harm you by knowning the number plate of your car? Stop watching so many movies kid

Ok R-R-Rx7:
I think we have gotten off to a bad start, I don't like being called a liar - That's why I reacted angrily to the post, Also I would like to be called a kid but at 30 years of age cant really be called that anymore.
The reason I dont like giving out my details regarding my Car registration is because I was arrested but de arrested once, after posting photos on another forum (No they werent of anything wrong), a few years ago - The photos were used to clone my cars identity and was used in a hit and run. So there you can see why I dont like giving the information out. The information I get is from several members on the RX8 Club Cyprus - http://www.facebook.com/pages/Rx8-Club-Cyprus/83972100361?ref=ts
As you will see there is a picture of an online tax disc on the facebook page for 56 euros. Once I get my digital camera back of a friend of mine I will take a photo of that and post it, it may take a couple of days to do so though.
If your wondering why I locked this thread was to gain perspective on the last two posts as well and not reply as I did on the earlier post. I hope the issues that have gone on in the past few days can be resolved.
Regards,
Adrian

i didnt mean to be offensive and i apologize that i was at some points but i hope you see my point of view too. When you have vital information that you dont spread, for a thing that bothers us all, the other party asking for that information will wonder why would you wanna keep it a secret. If you responded to the PM saying that you didnt feel comfortable giving your number plates out, i would understand but you kinda kept me hanging there.
Also, sorry for your misfortune for the hit and run situation. im sure its sad and no one wants to live such a nightmare, to be blamed for something that serious while you have no idea of what had happened
Anyhow, the picture from facebook was really all i needed because hell im not paying 514 euros when others are paying 56euros.

Having just spent a week over in Cyprus......Im surprised you can run an Rx! The roads are nuts!! I seemed to spend most of my time either avoiding pot holes, dodging falling rocks (boulders) on the troodos and driving along dirt tracks to see waterfalls and turtles in the Akamas.
I did see a couple of nice Rx8's in Pafos....but I was burning around in a PGO 500 buggy :) Great fun!
Speaking to a british guy that had moved to Coral Bay, he imported his car....they werent allowed to charge him import fees, part of the EU I guess, but they did try to whop on a big €4000 charge for re-plating...so he is still on UK plates!

well you spent it in pafos, no wonder why the comment heh, normally limassol and nicosia have better streets but dont expect anything like london,
If you thought the streets of pafos were bad, wait until u come to New York, LOL
As for the owner in coral bay, they dont charge you VAT, but they will charge you for import duty(which depends on the engine displacement), registration and MOT. you get the chance to avoid the SVA and the VAT

We went to that turtle beach when we were last in Cyprus. Small world innit :Giggle! Dunno how anyone can run an FD out there, I'm paranoid enough watching the temp gauge in Britain, I'd be a nervous wreck if it was like 40 degrees ambient to start with

Yes it is. Thats the first thing that came to mind. It got to 42 degress. Even at night it was HOT. Fan on manual switch and on all the time. Also he only drives it at night. :)

Yes I followed the coast road :o along past Turtle beach....through the rivers and puddles!! Carried on and over the Akamas through a road covered in goat poo! Then along a road that had a big sign saying dangerous road do not proceed! You have to turn a blind eye to these things as I was only 2 miles from where I wanted to be...and didnt want to go back through the road of poo! Glad I didnt go offroad as otherwise it would have invalidated my hire agreement ;)

Yes that hire agreement. If you get stoped tell them its yours and you are borrowing it with permision from the owner as they are not road legal. Please dont take them offroad. The dude was scared of hiring it to me. We also took one of his 500 raptor quads. Man should look at booking again all this talk..

It was all road legal, and we hired it from a guy at Coral beach. I dread to think what the 250cc engined car would have been like! We crawled back from Polis over the hill at 50kmh.....that said we did have a mountain of mud attached to the car also ;)
I'm going to get one for over here soon. Just need to remove the restrictors from it so it actually has some power!

Lol we had a 3 horse raise between quad, buggie and hire car offroad the terrain side off coral beach the quad had so much more traction.
You know what you need to do is ....el the quad or buggie that ill give it more power.
