What do you guys think of it so far?

trying to fit the engine... Didn't work at all. So I removed the gearbox, and put the two together. That went in fine.

hey its looking good :3gears-lh is it going to be standard'ish or has it been worked on ?

I've not been lurking much over at rx7club lately as I've been busy.

Does that mean you have a Mikuni carb and racing beat exhaust looking for a good home (whistle inocently :D )

depends on how heavy a foot Bart has :D ... with those massive rear tyres on the mariah I'd say your going to have to be carefull

well, first of all:
Mike, the carb has been sold on ebay (you'd know should you have checked the european forum ;) ) while the RB has gone to my dad.
All I have left is a TWR front spoiler :D
As for that gearbox: it'll last as long as it does. I also have the stock clutch in. I decided to smoke those first, before buying new parts. Once I'm through my spare gearboxes I'll throw in a TII one, but I'd like to wait till winter, because I just want to have a rolling car this summer.
Right now I have to wire in the Wolf 3D engine management system, and build an exhaust. Then finishing a few fittings etc, and we'll test it :D Hope I'll be able to fire it in about 2-3 weeks.

should cope alright with the stock clutch I would've thought ... a little slip should help the gearbox survive.

your brakes should be well up to the job anyway :)

sorry I didn't reply earlier, but I'll try to help as far as I can. Don't hesitate to contact me should you need any other advise.

first of all: my engine is not running yet, so I do have some more things to sort myself.
Fitting the engine in is easy enough: you need to unbolt the TII front cover and replace it with a 12A or GSL-SE one. Prefer the GSL-SE because it'll be easier to fix the turbo-oil drain line.
I used a 12A one, and had the cover modified. A small block was welded on and tapped (cover is to thin to drill and tap as such), but a GSL-SE one will have a place under the OMP that seems to be made for thise purpose: just drill and tap there.
Once the front cover is changed, the engine brace/support needs to be lengthened, or a special one can be ordered from Racing Beat. I just had the 12A one lengthened by 20mm, and used that one. Some trimming will be necessary to make it clear the front cover, nothing big though.
You'll also need a GSL-SE oil pan. If you can't fid a used one, new ones can be ordered from Mazda. I paid €160,- for a pan+seal. The dealer might need some pushing to order it, it's a US-spec part, so he might not know it. But Mazda Europe does deliver this part.
Before you mount the pan, swap the oil-pick up tubes. You need to install a 12A one. The 13B TII one won't clear the pan.
Now you're ready to go: engine is done. I mounted a lightwheight flywheel aswell, since that allowed me to use the stock gearbox (at least for a while).
The really hard part will be the box. You can fit a TII gearbox, but need to make a special mount I believe. A custom driveshaft has to be made: it needs to be the right length and needs the correct flanges. I think you'll need to lay the stock one next to the TII one and see what's different. Make sure the custom shaft is properly balanced!!!
I'm not sure how you will run the engine. I used a Wolf ECU, and therefor made a completely new engine wireloom. Having the engine part of the OEM wireloom is vital here. I used all the stock connector to make installation easier. If you use the OEM ECU, you'll need a good wiring diagram, so you can find out what needs to go where.
Hope that helped a bit,

Bart
