Right, update on Gen 1

We finally got old exhaust off, manifold off, put new gaskets in place only to find manifold was cracked!!!. Got replacement manifold, shouted lots, threw spanners around got new manifold on leaked water, realised we'd forgotten the O rings! More swearing. Finally all back together, she starts ok but now sounds like a bloody spitfire, not too much vibration but v loud and clattery is this right or should we be looking for a blow in the exhaust (which I'm still not convinced is completely airtight at the joints)?

Help, we are so close to getting the thing on the road and to a point where we can try for an MOT!

have you blanked off all the emissions stuff ? sounds like you either have a vacuum leak or an exhaust leak

all the stuff involed with cat and air pump are blanked off, though there may be a pipe which went from the air pump to the carb which is still open (does that sound right?). I am thinking there is a slight leak in the exhaust system somewhere, will look at it at the weekend

I think theres a couple of bits that need blanking off

take a look here ... it explains how to remove most of the junk thats not required on a US spec 1st gen (visible smoke test only in the UK <87 :D )
