I have a bit of a klonking noise from the front suspension when I go over bumps (only more severe bumps, not just general road undulations, and mostly (but not only) from near-side) and Im having a bit of a mare deciding what it is...

I am guessing its worn suspension bushes of some kind, but not really sure... ...is it most likely from the sway bar, or would it more likely be coming from the wishbones?...

Any advice on what to replace, what to replace with (ie poly-urethane, solid bushes, std. bushes) where to get the bits, and what sort of job its going to be would be appreciated

thanks in advance guys

hi catboy.

you didnt say what car you've got but a common suspension noise on any car is the anti roll bar link bushes, thats what noise is on mine anyway. on my t2 they are plastic cheap looking things but cost a fortune. easy to change though

mines a TII, so I guess its probably the same thing...
i posted a list of common faults in the general section, and it mentioned on there, upper front a-arm bushes... ...got straight on the phone to the local mazda dealership, and they informed me there arent any on a '89 turbo II...

dont know if its a dealer being crap or not, as I havent hada chance to look under the front since...

I think racing beat do some cheap-ish (about $14 each) anti-roll bar bushes, so might get some from there (my mate is coming over from USA in a couple of weeks, so will get her to secrete a set about her person!... ...and a set of springs, a body kit, general apexi goods, etc., etc.... :D

there is just lower arms with struts so it might just be someones own description of a part.

you say about cheap antirollbar bushes. these will be cheap and probably worth changing but the dear bit is the link from the bar to the lower arm. i think this is what you'll need.

thats the drop link between the anti-roll bar and the lower wishbone?... I seem to remember reading somewhere that they were about 25-30 quid a piece?... I think I spoke to rotechnics about them, as thats the first part I thought might be making the noise...

interesting..

i got a quote from mazda and they were something like 56 quid each+vat.
worked out to about £130. so i left it. if you find a cheaper alternative let me know as its an annoying noise:mad:

have a mate coming over from the states next week who lives about 5 miles away from a big rotary specialist (that would kill my bank balance) so I will get her to check prices and maybe smuggle a couple of sets over in her bum bag or whatevers cool in the us at the moment :)

unfortunately, she came over a week early, so my ideas for cheap suspension have gone up in smoke!...

I think I have an idea for where to get cheap (like £5 each) adjustable ones though, but need to know the diameter of the std. anti-roll bar on the front... ...keep forgetting to measure mine, and it was dark when I got home yesterday...

I think I can get some drop-links made here at work with sealed rose joints on each end... ...these are properly sealed with a grease nipple, so shouldnt have too much trouble with grit and stuff getting into them...

if anyone knows what diameter they are, please let me know and I will try to sort this out for people!
