Rust is the main thing to watch for ... they rot just about everywhere but most common is the reinforcing peice at the front of rear inner wheel arch where the suspension arms join the car.

The window seals on the doors tend to drop off too due to rust, engines aren't too bad and are much tougher than the later ones but watch for the usual symptoms of low compression and oil leaks around the Mazda logo's on the housings.

If its a MK2 (I doubt you will find a MK1 for sale) watch out for the oil cooler leaking (its under the rad up front) as they crack around the fittings. errrr. i've probably typed all this and more out before so a search in the 1st gen section would probably yield more usefull info on buying.

:-))

Henning and I are selling a red 1st Gen. There's a little rust and a few minor bits missing:

No Engine, gearbox, propshaft or exhaust.
No Radiator,Oil Cooler, Battery, front fenders, nose, or bumper!

Ideal restoration project!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

( There's a Ford powered RX-2 thats gonna have Rotary power again soon!)

:-)))))))))))))))

well I noticed Don Pamponi's white Gen 1 is on ebay: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=18211&item=2476411106&rd=1&ssPageName=WDVW

looks quite nice and I think there is a fair bit of knowledge about this car in the club too.

100% serious mate. I have a 1985 first gen. Bodywork has seen better days but the engine and running gear are good (need a clean though!).

If you interested then drop me a PM and i'll give you some more info.

Yep, I think mine's the best looking most cleanest Gen 1 on the market for the price. Can honestly say the bodywork is prettymuch perfect. Clive did a top class job on the paint- new sills all undersealed & stone chipped (textured paint, not damage).

You can get cheaper rusty ones, but beware - you can bet your ass it'll cost you more than double the difference in price (+ how many weeks/months?) to get a ruster to this standard.

Lots of work been done to this car recently, got to sell it though - new 1 arrives soon.
