View Full Version : Poly windscreen's?

As a whole bunch of you know I'm (highly unsuccessfully) trying to get a replacement windscreen for the 'vert I've got. And before anyone says - I have no windscreen cover on my insurance.
So I thought this evening - what about a plastic screen? People do poly windows, someone has started doing poly rear hatches, why not windscreens?
So, does anyone know of anyone who'd be able to do one, for a reasonable price?
Also, what about new windscreen seals? How are they to get hold of? Bearing in mind they're apparently bonded in.
Thanks!

As far as I'm aware, any readily available plastic wont be tough enough for a windscreen.
Not so much impact resistance, but the windscreen wipers will gouge it in no time and it will pick up loads of fine scratches and chips.
So my view is that it's a non-starter. Sorry!
Kim
Edit: Oh and if the screen is bonded in, there are no seals as such, the screen just beds on to a layer of mastic.

I had a feeling it'd be something like that - hence they're never used. Its just being a NIGHTMARE to get something sorted! I literally could have had the car back on the road about 2 months ago if it wasn't for this! And I'm not prepared to pay £400ish for a screen fitted...

Mate - someone posted up on driftworks a while ago about starting to produce one, a good search should find the thread. Stav was like 'I want one, I'll have one'. I pm'd him asking if he could remember who it was, but never got a reply.
Any idea what their number is?

Its always good to get offers like that! you're a star. Atm I'm afraid I'm going to see what I can do about picking one up from Portsmouth though - any tips on removing a bonded screen in 1 piece? (its the car being broken in the for sale section)...
I've got a few friends breaking them atm too, only none of them seem to get back to me! I'll message you if it all falls through though mate, and thanks for the offer! As said - removal advise would be appreciated!
