im the proud owner of petes old cab, really pleased with it just a couple of little things that irritate me -
1: when i brake coming off a motorway it feels like the car slides over its subframe or asif the lower wishbone bushes have worn away (had a caliba did the same thing) is this common? if so where are we buying said bushes/ wishbones?
2.its developed a random intermittent warning buzzer i can only assume means something, however its not accompanied by a dash light or any high/low readings on gauges... any clues??
3.my eyes burn when i drive lol and it constantly smells of petrol?
4.apexi boost controller only boosts to 2/3rds of what you set it too is this normal?
its being sent to pip at WGT in middlewhich for a full set up and fettle hopefully they can resolve a few things
im still chuffed with it tho!!

Don't know about
1) - that seems very strange - but it could be a lose bush I suppose.
As for
2) Warning Buzzer - it could be coolant level - check the expansion tank is at the correct level, and check the radiator cap is on properly. The system should pressurize and if extra water is needed, it should be drawn in from the tank. There should be a warning light for that - but the bulb may have blown. Buzzer comes on for that and something else if I remember correctly.
3) If it's running really rich on idle then you'll have 'burning fumes' at the rear - a good tune up should fix that.
4) Seems odd - could be a boost leak on one of the intercooler hoses.

Could the buzzer be the rev warning buzzer when you are at the redline? :D

That sounds like coolant. You can do a quick check for this actually. Before you start the car, locate the water level sensor on top of the rad, follow the wire back from the sensor to the connector. Unplug this and earth the wire that goes to the instruments. Start the car - if the buzzer isn't sounding anymore, then the coolant level is a little low.

are you usually cornering at the same time? if so it could be the rear steer bushes are knackered

no its in a strait line when braking hard off a slip road - rear steer??? whu?? is that why it feels like it has the most open diff in the world?....need the rear steer killing in that case any clues as to how i go about that? my 300 had a hicas lock bar same solution for the fc's?

its worth checking ther DTSS - have a look in the 2nd gen section - there is a recent post about it
it should eliminate the rear wheel steer completly :D

looks very interesting need to get my head under the back of the car, i cant get my head round how bushes will null the rear steer (that i didn't even know i had till 5 mins ago lol!) do fc's have lsd's as standard if so are they 1 way or 2 way? anyone got any decent pics of the underside, is it passive at speed this rear steer? can it not be nulled by locking hydrolic lines? or is it even a hydrolic system? i don't know enough about this car yet, its very similar to the 300 in many ways yet completely different in others

if you have an LSD then you've either got an aftermarket diff or a very special FC. The cheapest option is probably to get the diff welded, or you could buy an FD diff as they fit in the TII diff casing.
The rear steer is passive unlike nissans HICAS, therefore its usually eliminated by these bushes. I supose you could probably fit some kind of arms to stop it steering, but that'd be totally custom, and most likely harder

The rear steer is passive - it's basically some bushes that give under a certain load, so they will throw you into a corner with a bit of oversteer and then lock up. Some people hate it, but once you are used to it, it's quite easy to predict.
The DTSS bush kit eliminates the passive steer function with a solid bush that has no give.

The passive rear steer isn't linked to the steering wheel - it only acts on the rear suspension using toe steer:
Mazda also introduced the Dynamic Suspension System Monitoring (DTSS) in the 2nd generation RX-7. The revised independent rear suspension incorporates special control of the feet that are capable of introducing a degree of passive rear steering under cornering loads.

Buzzer is coolant, I did change the antifreeze, plugs and HT leads the day before you got it so it just needs a top up. It should not use any water but always check regulary.
Have you checked your tyres? never had a problem with rear end steer at all but could be a worn bush of some sort.
make sure that the rod is connected to the turbo from the wastegate, the little circlip is common to corrode or fall out.
The smell of fuel could be a few things, as this was never apparent when i had it or during the test drive with roof down then check you have replaced the fuel filler cap?
other than that a smell of fuel could be a sticky injector or a bad ECU signal to the injector.
Glad you still happy with the car, a lot of people wanted that one from this forum.

hiya pete! yea still chuffed with it, im sure ital bee reet ill put all my faith into wgt hopefully they'll come up trumps!
also i rolled 1ft over a red light speed camera at around 3 in the morning yesterday - didnt for one second think it would flash for literally 1ft - so you might get a ticket through the door if so throw it my way ill dispute it in court if necessary bloody ridiculous, what danger am i posing at 1ft over a line?!? was no crossing, and i was certainly no obstruction or a green box for cyclists and surely 18wheelers and other long vehicles regularly bla bla...... anyway just thought id let you no publicly so you dont think im likely to do a runner or you leaving you with the points (i did have a clean licence...grrrr)
coolent seemed pretty sweet tbh right level and temp was the same?

If the coolant is topped up then try manipulating the wire on top of the rad, I have only just replaced that on my orange FC as they do start to break away a bit too easily over time. I have put some good strong windscreen sealant on top of where the wire attaches to the sensor, stops it moving around and breaking.
Have you sent the docs off yet for the car?
