Hey Guys, a friend of mine has a 91 savanna with a smoking problem.
It smokes on and off time to time and only on idle?
He has changed the oil metering pump 3 time now thinking its that.
Also the car is not using up oil like you would think if somthing like a oil control ring seal gone?
Turbo is all good to.
Any ideas will be a great help.
Thanks Jon

it may well be oil control ring seals but does it do this when you rev it?
If you dont suspect the turbo or engine then the ECU controls the OMP and this has caused over oiling in the past especially if its a aftermarket ECU.
See if there is any oil in rear of turbo and also in the compressor side. Also take the oil cap off and see if that sorts it out at idle.

Thanks Pete
Sometimes its good on idle and revs.
But then smokes others on idle and if you rev the car not alot of smeke comes out.
Been on it and changed the ECU's from the aftermarket to standard, but no won :(
Anything else to try?

The OMP get's it's oil feed from a small hole in the side of the front housing. Normally this oil just drips out, but it's possible if that front housing has pressurised that the oil might be forced through at a higher rate.
If you've got no error codes for the OMP, then I'd say it's ok, and your oil is coming from somewhere else.
