Hey guys, got a bit of a problem, to the rex out for a spin the other the nod going fast about 40, when i heard a stone chink the car (front) didnt think anything of it, so got home gave the car a clean ready for a photoshoot next day and went to bed

Got to the photo shoot and left the car running, when it started getting warm, normally runs at around 82-84 on the fc commander, the temp started to climb up to 88, thought it was a bit odd, any way i noticed a patch of coolant on the floor where the car was parked previous, turned the car off and let it cool down, had a look underneath and caw coolant dripping out quite quick off the under tray, got my mate to have a look and he saw it was comming from the radiator so not very happy!!!

Any way got my radiator through today so gonna try fit it over the next few days so the obvious questions are gonna be

1. how do i drain the coolant from the system? (im not worried about making a mess) lol

2. how do i remove the radiator?

3. how do i refill the system with out getting any air locks?

oh yeah also

4. what coolant do i use? the coolant in there is a loumenous yellow/green colour but all i can seem to find to buy is blue or red coolant

Thank guys any help would be much appreciated

if it's for an fd, there is a drain plud at the bottom of the rad, before unscrewing that disconnect the pipe connecting to the uim (black, just behind the elbow if looking from the front of the car, this will allow it to drain quicker) and take off the coolant cap. Then unscrew the plug on the rad.

To fill it, reconnect everything and fill through the centre cap that says do not remove (ignore that bit of health and safety ......), to remove air, fill as normal, when full (about 1 inch from the top) squeeze the large pipe at the front of the engine bay, it's about 3 inchs diameter and when you do squeeze it you'll see the fluid rise where you've removed the cap, you should also see bubbles and when you let go the fluid level will have dropped, keep doing this until the level harldy drops and voila. Check it every few days for a week and top it up as and when required.

As to removing the rad, not a clue but i'm guessing you'd disconnect all the pipes and unscrew/bolt something and it will come out.

Coolant, use the blue stuff, but flush out the system a few times before filling up with a new type of system.

yeah sorry its an fd forgot to mention that,

well im confused now, i went outside and checked the coolant level, all ok supprisingly, checked the radiator and there was some coolant on it on the underside but nothing major, checked the caps etc all ok

so i started the car and let it warm up all fine got up to 82oc on the fc commander, guage looked normal and stock guage looked normal, then i reved it abit to try get the temp up, it went up slowlyto about 84oc, i normally keep the heaters on permenant so i closed them off and shut the bonnet, the temp rose to 89oc and the fans kicked in, the fc comander said 89, the after market guage said 85 and the stock guage hadnt moved at all, checked the rad no leak there was some coolant on the rad but it was relativly cold, turned the heaters onto full and the temp fell to 86 and stayed there, so now im truley confused

the photo shoot day was relatvily warm and my car was stood still for a while after a drive so would the temp rise because of that?

i was thinking is there an overflow pipe that might let coolant out if it expands that much or gets too hot, i did put some more water in a while ago but that was around 7 months ago would this do anything?

any help guys would be good

thanks andy
