Hello fellow members,

I'm looking for a 3rd Gen. 7 and have got a particular car in mind, it's a '92 type R, with low miles, 1 owner etc.
My problem is that the vehicle has had the original turbo pack replaced with a tested secondhand unit becuase the original set up suffered water seal failure.
Has anyone suffered come across this problem before and/or know the cause?
I wondered if this could have been an anti-freeze related problem, but either way I'm concerned that the engine may have overheated at some time.
If it has, would a rebuild sort the problem, because I would have thought that the rotor housings would have been warped for good and new ones needed rather than just replacing seals etc.

Can someone please advise.

Many thanks

Steve.

Steve, the best thing that you could get done is a compression test. This will give an indication if there is any problems.

I doubt that it was an anti-freeze problem, as most are pretty good now-a-days.

Could be that there was a weak gasket or something like that, that would have caused the failure.

Hi Steve,

As Dan has suggested the Comp. Test would be a very good idea. It is a little worrying that the turbo pack gave up the ghost on account of a water seal failure (I am assuming it was one of the gaskets in the turbo, rather than a water o-ring seal in the engine).

You can also have the coolant system pressure tested which isn't a bad idea. But be warned - if a water seal (o-ring) is on the way out it could stuff the engine completely, as the pressure test would strain it.

:) Thanks for your prompt reply guys,

The vehicle in question is one that Jimmy's have on their site, a Red '92 type R.
Andrew only stated that they had problems with the turbo pack,
and seeing as I've had to replace the turbo on my 200sx no fewer than 3 times I don't want the same grief with the 7.
Jimmy's offer a 12 month warranty and I assume all the tests you chaps have mentioned would be carried out by them, is this a fair assumption, have any of you had experience with Jimmy's?

best regards
