Having just registered with the Club I thought I would share my experiances with my RX7. I purchesed my MK1 in 1981 for £6,000. My Dad thought I had gone off my rocker at the time with repayments of £169 a month, I had friends who were paying less on a mortgage! But after 3 years my Car was all mine. Well 23 years on and I still have my Car and with only 54,000 miles on the clock she is in great condition for her age.
She has only faled one MOT and that was for a leaky exhaurst. That year I replaced and its still on the Car today. I am only the second set of tyres and only the 3rd battery. In fact she has only ever let me down once in all those years. I managed for one perid to keep her dry for 6 years which has helped to keep her from rusting.
I have recently been trying to find out how many RX7 Mk1's there are still on the road but with not much luck. Mazda UK have only got records going back to 1980 and were able to tell me that there were only 429 imported in that year. Going on that figure in 1978 I would assume there were considerably less so there can not be many left. I tried the DVLA but they were not very helpfull only giving me companies to call. Most of them wanted about £300+ for the imformation I need, but I'm not the desperate to know.
Anyway if anyone out there has any ideas on how between us we can find out exactly how many Mk1's there are on the road I would be gratefull for a reply.
At 45 I still get the same buzz when I drive my Car just like I did when I was 22.
