View Full Version : Egi Mods

Right, just gotten hold of a replacement for my bent series 2 egi. I will be transplanting my own 200bhp N/A lump (Its 200 'cos of various modifications to the internals + removal of the old manifold and reburner, and a straight through exhaust system) into the car and generally doing lots of tidying up before I take it to the shows!
Anyway, I want to know what other engine mods are worth doing? I've seen a K&N 57i induction kit for the 13B non turbo, but want to know if its worth installing one? Is it worth adding an after market ECU? I've seen cars running around with HKS dual spark systems, what difference does that make? Is it worth changing the injectors to a higher cc rating? I've already taken car of the oil pump by making various modifications to increase oiling. Is it worth fitting a larger oil cooler?
If anyone has info on tuning the EGi's, it would be so much help to me, I've seen loads of advice for the T2, but very little exists for the EGis.
Thanks guys.

Hi Brett,
At least a good after market air filter and throwing away the thermal reactor ( manifold ) and replacing it with a two branch manifold would be the first thing's on your quest for more power.

Cheers clive, I've already removed the reactor etc, thats how I managed to reach the 200bhp mark in the end, I've experimented with a K&N panel filter, but was just wondering if a full induction kit with a cone filter etc is prooven to make much difference?
Cheers

Brett, if you go for an induction kit, try and find a some good size hosing to feed cold air on to it.
One of the problems is with induction kits and rotaries, is that the engine bays are so hot, you will just end up pulling in hot air. And thats not a lot of good. :(

Has anyone actually tried out a cold induction kit on an EGi? I'm going to manufacture some extra ducting to ensure a cold air feed.

Street port and weber throttle bodies should see you just shy of 230 at the flywheel. Should be getting an article on this mod by fax tonight. Will OCR and post it if readable.
Need to check if there is an IDA kit for the 6-port. I like IDAs :-)

£400 will do you an IDA setup. If you know where to look :-)
I'm still working on the Blade throttle body option which should come in nearer £200 all up.

I've seen a few going cheap on Mini manifolds and the like.
Whats the difference between an IDA and an IDF ? appart from the fact IDF's seem to be much more common

IDF is closely spaced bores whereas IDA is like a vertical DCOE.
I think. My reference is at work.
