MRP can offer the latest Genuine Mazda uprated RX-8 coil packs to offer it’s customers that are not available in the UK or Europe, at a saving of £44 per coil over the Mazda UK price.

As you may know ignition coil packs have become a potential failure point on all 30,000 mile plus RX-8’s this has unfortunately led to engine failures attributed, 100% to the coils not powering the spark plugs properly.

When these coils fail the unfortunate driver often never even knows he has a problem as there is not a huge power decrease, however due to the coils not producing enough power to the spark plugs this has led to unburnt fuel being left in the engines Rotor chamber that has then washed the oil away leading to rapid wear, loss of compression resulting with the engine not starting properly and the only cure being a new engine.

Any competent DIY owner should be able to change these easily with very few tools as the coils sit directly on top of the engine to give your engine insurance against the type of failure explained above.

There are four individual coils fitted to the engine. Coils can be bought separately or as a set of four.

With each full set of coils purchased, MRP will also make available a set of 8mm Magnecor silicon plug leads to help complete your ignition system upgrade at 30% less than the recommended price.

We buy our normal RX-8 leads in 10 at a time which means the KV85 will mean a 0ne off order with no discount like the normal ones,
Price for these will be £56.10 plus vat /£64.52

Dont forget though we will still save you lots of money as Mazda want £102 per coil and our Mazda coils are £50 per coil plus if you put your order through our shop you can get a further 5% off if your a full club member.

Hope this helps

As we all know by now the RX-8 has a coil pack problem but after talking to a Ford Focus owner I have found that the RX-8 is far from alone,

The 3 year old 1.4 LX has so far consumed 4 sets of coils :(

On top of this the car is undergoing it's second power steering problem which you would think is no big deal until you hear that the engine has to be lifted out and the job costs £1100 !!!!!!!!!!!!!

Lastly this staggered me, the car has now run out of Manufacturer warranty that the first pump was attended to under but extended warranty will not cover the second, why ? because the car has been serviced by Ford all its life 500 miles before its due so its now one service ahead and Ford say this has now said this has invalidated the warranty and they will not pay for the second pump :Hammer:Hammer:Hammer

My RX8 has done 30.000 miles and is a 04 plate. Would it be recommended that i change out the Coil packs at this stage or should i have them removed for inspection. What do I look for in inspection and are the packs easy to remove and replace. At 30.000 could there be any damage to the engine ?
Also what type of spark plug would you recommend.

Les :xconfused

Hi Les

If you have done 30k then based upon what many many others have found then yes we would recommend changing them,

As for any damage that may have happened then we would be unable to tell but providing the car has no issues at the moment you should be fine,

We recommend the hotter plug for all RX-8's, these plugs were fitted by Mazda over here if there were any starting problems but we know the cars are happier with these plugs fitted also the newer R3 is fitted with these as standard.

We also recommend changing the leads at the same time and if you buy all four coils you get these at a reduced rate.

If you follow the links below you will find more info plus a picture of the underside of bad coils,

BTW currant Mazda price is £512 for for coils our price is £240.88

Hope this helps
