evenin gents, am new to the forum but am in desperate need of some quality advice!
Brought a white 1990 turbo2 in june of last year, with 65k on the clock and some sensible mods. the car had quite a lot of history with it and all the mots, so i know the milage is genuine. Unfortunately what i didnt know when i brought the car was that the rotor tips on turbo2's on average need to be replaced at around 70k. lo and behold am out on nice march day givin it some grief when the engine looses it big time. long story short, the rotor tips have gone and it needs a rebuild. been in contact with my local "specialist" hurley rotary who quoted me about 2500 for the job with 50k warranty. am skint and cant afford that so shoped around for a second hand engine and found a 33k jap import engine for 700.
I just need to know what experience, if any, people have had with hurley rotary and what you guys would do if it was your motor? thanks in advance.

Hi and welcome to MRC,
Sorry to hear your first acquaintance has been a little painfull.
l think l would like to either hear this 33k engine run or at least know l could get me money back if it turns out to be, not quite as advertised.
Hope this helps.

Welcome, good to hear from another TII owner! My TII's got a Hurley Engine, it had been done a few years before I bought it and has covered about 30k on the engine now. I have no complaints about the engine at all, although as I said I didn't have the work done myself so not sure what the service is like.

do a search for Hurley & you'll see the poor service i got from them & c/o this i doubt anything they do is cheap & certainly not good value but that's my experiance/opinion! I'd try one of the other experts such as Pip @ WGT- northwich way or the more southern daddies of rebuilds :god
As Clive says sorry to hear of your unfortunate situation thou & hope you can get it sorted so you can get back to enjoying it. Although if you can in any way i wouldn't wana skimp too much on engine bits but hey i'm bad enough spending my money so best not try spending yours as well.... ;) lol

Hi,
I reckon if the engine is available with some sort of come back agreement, this would be the best option for you, due to the price......OR save a bit and have it rebuilt to a better a bigger spec:eek:

If your ok about taking out the motor, why not take it out any
way, hire a car/van beg a lift, and take it down to Carl or Tim
for a rebuild/xchange engine bet you can half the price AND
have a engine with new housings and may be even ported!
go on give em a call let us know what it costs!

sweet idea. just got off the blower, and a complete rebuild is 1695+VAT. better than 2500, but still cant afford it at the min.
as for takin out the old lump, if it was a piston engine i would have no trouble, but ive never touched a rotory before, so i would be learning from scratch. not too confident about that.

Again sorry to hear about your situation:(. But i'd have a go at taking the engine out yourself, everything on the outside is pretty much the same as a piston engine so if you are happy taking a piston engine out then you should be fine taking one of these babies out. And then you can just let the pro's strip it and rebuild it for you, saving some cash along the way :cool
Good luck, Paul:)

Chris and Justin (from up north) are offering a cost effective rebuild kit and were also talking about doing rebuilds. So far I think the've done a couple of T2's. Try posting on www.fduk.org to "jus from up north". If I can find email or contact details, i'll let you know.

Hurley Rotary....
It starts out promising until they get your money, then the service just seems to vanish without trace....( How can you confuse a 12a exhaust with 13b exhaust? Specialist my arse.)
....of course that just my opinion but I dont think I'm alone.

Cheers :cheers for all the info lads.
Just wonderin if chris and justin (from up north) would be near leeds at all, cause i can get the lump there quite easily if need be.
Bit gutted about hurley....... would have been nice to use them as they are only 15mins from me.
Oh well its service and engine performance that counts, not location.
Thanks again for all the advice gents. Its much appreciated.:wave

just want to say thanks to everyone who posted replies, and helped me find the best place to send my t2. its booked in at WGT in a couple of weeks time( took me this long to scrape the money together!! ) for the re-build, and some internal mods.
Cheers to everyone for your help ( especially concerning hurleys dubious reputation ) and ill catch you later.:bandit

Damn!! may have got in here a bit late!
i have a TII aswell, and when i bought it, the previous owner had imported an engine from japan with 30k miles on it,
basically, it cost him 900 incl, and he fitted it himself,
what i wanted to highlight is that import engines are pot luck really, as the one in my car now turns out to have a few pick n mix parts done by the jap nutters, and i am getting really nice figures out of it now, and still running fine! so who knows what bolt ons or mods the engine will have?! :D its got about 55k on it now (including the 30k), but fear for the worst when i start to hit the 60's and 70's, but then again the engine that was in before lasted the previous owner 88k miles,
someone from this forum has menioned before about seeing 130k with no rebuild???
anyways, good luck mate
