I have updated the table as best I can - please let me know of anything I have missed or if you can fill in any blanks.
When posting your times please can you supply all the information listed in the table?
Thank you,

As long as all the times are in now, what about deleting the other 14 pages of chat.
I doubt theres anything useful there (I cant even be bothered to look anyway) and its cluttering the thread a bit. Im sure we will get another 14 pages worth in no time now its getting to summer (or has summer gone already)!

Went to SCR for a recce for Rotorstock yesterday.
Ross posted a 11.801 which makes him fastest (well done Ross)
and is now an invited car (subject to poof of the car being road car legal )
Geff had run a 12.01 when l left, and as lt looked as though racing had finnished when l left this would make it his best time, well done Geff.

I heard that Ross had run 11.6 dead but didnt see it. Geff did get a final run after you left before the burn out comp started - Carl and I watched it. Looked 'average' overal but it was enough for an 11.9 which was good.
Do we know how GaryG got on today?

Just remember guy's that your car must be taxed and mot'd.
Or we will have to exclude you from the street fighter showdown.
Good work by the way.
Gary Gooding did 4 runs and got two of 12.8 at 120 mph.
This is the first runs that we have done with the car in it's present form.
Lot's of work to do for rotorstock but we are really pleased with it so far.
The runs were all done on 19 inch wheels with very low profile street tyres as we did not want to damage the drivetrain (Yet!)
Gary did some really impressive burnouts! We will try to get a pic or two up of them.
Anyway we shall be back as Arnold would say.
Kind regards

No probs. Geff - just makes things easier.
Great time and MPH Geff. I would say for a street FD RX-7 these 11second times are VERY good. I know of one guy here running in the 10's with an FD, but it is a pretty serious set-up. (Talking Street cars here - not 1/2 chassis cars).
You certainly know all about it don't you when you start running 1.8 0-60ft's!

Car 1 accelerates to 50mph in 1 second, and then takes a further 4 seconds to get to 60 mph.
Car 2 sits on the line wheelspinning and after 4 seconds only does 10mph, but then it has better power or something and hits 60 again in another second.
They have both been going for 5 seconds, and both are moving at the same speed at this point in time. Car 1 however is going to be a long way up the road due to the longer time at a higher speed, before the other cars power overcomes the lead already gained.
Its an extreme example, but I was just trying to point out how the start makes a difference.
Hope that kinf of explains it.

I did too run. At 4am, monday morning, I timed myself (counting out loud, as my watch doesn't have a light), and (as I didn't have the lights on) I used the mileometer (bit tricky, as I had to convert from km's to miles, and then divide by 4), I reckon I did the 1/4 mile in about 8.4 secs, with the first 60ft in about 0.2 seconds.
I think I can see where you guys keep getting slow times. What you do is reverse as far as you can up to the wall, and start from there. By the time you're passing the sensor, you're doing a good 20 mph already and just makes it that bit easier.
I was surprised no-one else was doing it in the shootout, as it made it much easier to do quick times...
Obviously I didn't run on monday, as that kind of time would have demoralised everyone else, esp as I'm still running twins and the cat's still on the car...
Hey - it's not my fault Gurj is going to get you...!!

The items from Quaife are more for circuit racing than drag racing, ratios probably aren't that great also.
May be stronger, but you will probably still break them.
My car even has the potential to break my diff/gearbox, and those goodies were £10K (the www.4rotor.com box/diff).
Real strength comes from 9 inch type setups, non-independant - live axel rear ends. A proper drag set-up will cost you over £10K and that won't include the tubbing/chassis set-up.
If you want to run fast and consistent you have to spend the dollars/pounds in these areas, last thing you want to be worried about is the driveline - you want to concentrate on engine power and getting it to the track.
This kind of set-up would be ok:

Did a 15.84 , with 74 Mph at Santa Pod 4 August 2002. Stock FD ( with low secondary boost!).
I had a reaction time of 1.137.
In another run, wehre I hooked 5th instead of 3rd, I had a reaction time of 1.113, a poor time of 16.269.
However, my speed was 85.46 Mph.
I cannot understand the higher top speed in the second one??
J4P RX
4th June 2004, 06:57 AM
It does seem odd, but the speed in the first one is poor! You should be around 100mph really, so 26mph off does leave some room for improvement pretty easily.
Maybe your were on the brakes before the finish line on the first run or something like that gicing a false figure.

Santapod today, last fours runs before a motorbike :censored::censored::censored::censored: its guts and they cleared up for an hour:
1.661 60ft, 11.372 at 124.67mph
1.664 60ft, 11.119 at 127.16mph
1.730 60ft, 11.223 at 128.95mph
2.014 60ft, 11.516 at 130.07mph
Cleaned up, let about 6 cars thru and then it rained. We hung about for the next 2.5hrs hoping it would stop as Tim and Geff's cars were ready to go just before the xmas tree. It just kept at a fine drizzle, we went home.
Geff's driving inconsistencies were in evidence again, 130mph and still no 10!! :D
The best part for me was watching the terminal speeds go up - and cracking 130mph! - thats got to present a fair bit of power I think....and the engine still feels good - some acheivement considering its now done a few thousand miles and I dunno how many dyno and 1/4 mile runs :D
Dont update the table just yet Glenn ;)
antnicuk
13th August 2004, 08:47 PM
it is well in excess of a 100 dyno runs. Really well done geff. Now you need to let the dyno guy have a drive, he will probably get low 10's if he manages anything like he did at R/S. Good work though.

I know you guys measure by 1/4 mile times but what sort of bhp we talking to hit 11.1secs????
J4P RX
13th August 2004, 09:47 PM
BHP translates to the terminals and not the times really. 130 is pretty good going, but I dont know how much power that is in an FD.
g11ary
13th August 2004, 10:11 PM
Im as guilty as the rest, but its not always down to bhp, there was a vid somewhere last year in usa guy hitting 10 sec in a 400 bhp car, very experienced driver, generally though 500 bhp I would guess for an 11 sec car, maybe a little more for 10 sec's.
A good driver in yours with 460 should be able to break into 11 sec.

14th August 2004, 06:44 AM
The 11.119 is an awesome time for an fd in 'road ' form there were a number of out and out drag cars there 'testing' running 10sec passes - when you look at what they do to achieve those times it puts it into perspective:D
Geff was running 508atw @ 1.4bar on wednesday, I think that makes it the fastest and most powerfull:D :D in the UK - well done Geff, I think the 10sec will be yours on Sunday:wave weather permiting:cool

For those interested;
Geff/RE:Worx red car
Driven by Guy
Santapod
2nd run of the day
60ft: 1.589
1/8 ET: 6.87
1/8 MPH: 109.23
1/4 ET: 10.614
1/4 MPH: 130.48
10.30am, job done - we went for a burger and a cuppa :)
Did another run 11.1 or some thing, then the WI sprang a leak. Que got stupid and weather got hot, struggled to get a couple more runs in over the course of the afternoon as there were loads of bikes and a fair few kiddy dragsters running. Gearbox got louder (4th started graunching on the way up after a run in with a skyline, plate ?500 GTR on the M40 and couple of great runs with a spanky new Cerb Speed 6 with dad and son on board - fun-hearted chat with them at about 50-mph afterward on the A43 - mainly asking what engine was under the bonnet! said they were off to silverstone and was I coming :)) and although the terminals were consistently 128-129mph the track was getting dusted by the guys on the line a fair bit due to kids in corsa with sprays un stuff so the surface grip seemed to drop away.
Last run Guy did I got back to him parked up and he said it 'didnt sound right' - must've gone right on the line as it still made 129mph and 11.3 with a 1.960ft. Cranked her and no surprise - one-rotor warrior :(
Rang geff to tell him the news, packed up and headed home - and every road I went on was gridlocked :(
Any way, after about 2 1/4hrs of one rotor chugging through backroads trying to avoid traffic I finally made it to the last bit of the A34 before home. Chugging up hill the exhaust note clears up, the T51 starts whining and she's screaming along at 1bar on both rotors again!!!!!!!???
Dunno what the problem is, ignition some where I guess? but she's sat on the drive and will be taking me to work tomorrow ;)
Rang Geff. Happy again :)

Just one small point,
There is an RX7 a few years back that was doing 10 second 1/4's in the UK.
It was running a N/A 13 b with NOS in a 1st gen.
So not quite true to say the 1st Rotary in the 10's.
Still very well done to all concerned.

Now you tell us Carl!!! :rollin after all this time, we all thought no other rotary powered car in the UK was in the 10's??? :)

It was funny really cops I was approached by him at the RWYB 2 weeks before Rotorstock at Shakespeare.
He now is running a Datsun 260z in the nines.(Chevy powered)
He just came out with it and said that he had a 1st gen RX7 running that configuration a few years back,I said what sort of times and he said at first it would run 11's and later it was in the 10's.
Also if we are going to be really picky Eamon Hurley has run a 3 rotor NSU bike in the 8's in the early 80's.
The table is fine by me,just thought it might encourage some to think that they also could do a very quick time up the strip that's all.

Nice to see that those sort of times are possible without turning the FD into an out and out drag car...........dont think you could go much further without sorting the gearbox / drive train though.

20th May 2005, 09:05 AM
I'll let u know when its running! Mine bins all the original 20b intake and exhaust system (currently building up the intake manifold and plenum and t/b setup from scratch at the mo - gonna look the nutts :D) and is mounted 6-7" down the tunnel using some firewall 'massaging', short prop, fabricated sump and subframe mods, etc. etc. If you bolt it in the stock location you will save yourself a load of heart ache and money in fabrication etc although u will sacrifice the cars handling dynamics - which i wasnt prepared to do.
TBH its been sat in the corner of the workshop for the best part of 2 years largely doing nothing - but its starting to come to gether now for one reason or another ;-)
We will be trying a lot of different intake setups and generally messing about with it plenty on our dyno once running...
I have another cheap FD for my daily now (and for the track :)) so the 20b really will be a toy and development mule when done.
Good luck with yours, my best advice would be (as a wise australian on this forum once said to me!) to work out a generous budget and timescale - and then multiply it by 3 at a minimum!!! Please keep us updated with progress, I have a major love affair with the 3 rotors. Had a stocker in an FC for a little while, the nosie is just lovely :D

Ive got alot of experience on the 1/4 (must have done it 20+ times in my Reno5) so presuming the average driver could get off the line what ya reckon?
planning to run it in 6weeks at santa pod and dont want to be too dissapointed on the day ;) saw a few RX7s at RS2 running what Id suggest ot be slowish times what car they are....
thanks, Dave

Hi Mate,
Drop the tyre pressures for a start, dont go to mad, a few psi to begin with, going to ott can result in your diff and its contents staying on the start line...
What revs did you take off at?

To be honest mate I ain't got a clue!
I hit the throttle and lifted the clutch, slowed the clutch over bite till it was firm, then slammed it from there. Judging by the pace I took off at I'd guess only 2.5 - 3k rpm
Looking at the playback on the defi's I didn't have full boost through a big part of first gear so think there's a little time to be gained in there.
Do the early times look high? Carl and I guess the bhp to be around 300 but it wasn't mapped on a dyno so can't be more precise
Don't want to hit the clutch gearbox and diff too hard cos repair costs would hurt at the mo.
Any advice is welcome! Want to beat a 13.3 run by a friend in a scoob with the interior stripped out

Dave, according to the dyno on the day I had 305bhp, and I got 13.1's and 13.2's, have had a 13.0 on a really good launch, so with 320hp and a nice run you may even crack into high 12's...

I was holding my throttle at 3000 revs for most of my launches, i experimented with it, less and i bogged down, more and i got to much wheel spin, it all depends on pressures, tyre temps, the surface you are racing on...
i would start with a slight drop in pressure, hold the throttle at your desired revs an launch..
it took me a while but i got my 12.9 eventually! :D
Im running just under 300 at the wheels..

By the way my best was 14.1 @ 99 MPH
incidentally it was my first ever run on the strip
I said before I went I would be happy if I made 13's so its not far off considering theres no major tuning been done of the engine I'm happy
Once I get my new diff and get some tips and practice maybe I'll start seeing some improvement :cool

I think it's great that several of us than had never done it before now have done...
5500 is the sweet spot for mine for sure (Which fits with the theory and with James' dyno printout) - problem I had is feathering the clutch. It needs to be proper hot for progressive takeup. The last run I was riding the clutch in the queue on purpose and that seriously helped balancing it all. I was so shocked at a half-decent launch I stopped paying attention and :censored::censored::censored::censored:ed up 1-2 AND 2-3 and in fact pretty much gave up once in 3rd and wasn't on WOT at the trap!
Next time - no hangover, and wind it up a bit more when staged - there was definitely slack in something on my 3rd launch so it bogged slightly even though the revs were there.
It was almost impossible to get the PZeros to spin on launch pad as well, be interesting to see what happens when I try it on a track setup with Avons.
Can someone advise - don't think I'll lunch the diff, but I'm a bit concerned about the CF drive shaft, will it take the abuse?
Figures later, left the slips at home AGAIN - best was just under 16.1 with absymal everything else. :D

Right o, had a great day at Santa Pod today and had my first go at drag racing. Good to meet some of you , hope you all had a good day. Heres my times for today. I've never done it before so I took it pretty easy boost setting wise and revs. I'm not very at home with high revs on the launch. I was only revving to about 3-3.5krpm which was definately too low. The first run was done in the lowest boost setting, second in second boost setting and third run in third boost setting (1 bar I think but need to confirm with John Y?). I didn't try the high boost setting as my technique was very poor and I didn't want to end up in the concrete on my first day! I spoke with a few Pod regulars about the time and they reckon it shows my technique to be very novice and the car to be very promising as I still got a 12.9 with such a poor start. I'm chuffed with it , just need to learn to launch better and hopefully I'll get some very good scores. What do you guys think?

Stripy broke, the dragon car ran though. I didn't get the times I'm afraid. The first run didn't really happen, the second run was a bit snakey (!) in the tens I think , but may be wrong. Impressive cars in the flesh. First time I've seen them. The jet car was mental!
