hi i am having trouble with my fd3s stereo, its not the original and when i bought the car the front speakers were not connected, out of the back of the stereo is a thickish black cable with a small black square plug end, im assuming this connects to the power supply for the door and centre speakers, where exactly is this plug supposed to plug into, i've looked everywhere within reason, took the glove box out and everything, any help is appreciated!!!!!
thanks

I don't know but I doubt that's anything to do with the front speaker, as it don't look like one of the speaker wires, atleast not like one of my ones anyway. I have a few wires left hanging loose since I put in a aftermarket unit and eveything seems to be working ok ??
The only time my drivers side front speaker stop working was when I had my alarm done and the technician knocked the cable off and didn't put it back.

When I get home I'll have a look on my one and let you know what I find. I only have a single din so it's quite easy to search behind the centre console.

Hi The wire that was knocked out was in the door panel that actually goes to the speaker. I have had a look on mine and I don't even see a similar wire. It's too dark now to take a picture and post but I will do tomorrow for you but it still don't look like a speaker cable.

It does look like a power cable for something, but to the best of my knowledge will not plug into the back of the Sony MD unit (I'm assuming that is what it is as it looks the same as the one I had in my last car) you have.
I'd suggest the previous owner had an amp installed, and that was the power lead for it. Have you checked if it is live?
Your front speakers should be able to run fine off the head unit, all the wiring you need is in the ISO connection (the 2 white blocks). However, assuming the p/o did run a seperate amp it may be the front speakers are hooked up to a different cable. I'd check the door speakers and see if there is a second set of wires hanging around them that are not hooked up. If that is the case then just switch them over and you should have life. If not then things get tedious as you will probably have to do a bit of wire following.
It's at this point I would like to highlight that I am guessing as I do not know how an FD is wired up, and will not be able to check until I get mine back at the end of the month.

well out of one of the iso connectors comes this black wire, i'll have to take a pic to explain it, BUT, there two, and one has this attached, load of wires are already in the head unit and following that group of wires which im assuming goes to the front, that black plug is at the end. now the fd's come with factory amps i believe, and im sure the front set of door speakers and centre come with their own dedicated amp, so i'm guessing this plugs into there, but no idea how to plug it in as it isnt the most visible of things, not sure where to look exactly, i may end up taking my dash apart looking lol

And these are the spare cables.
The one that looks similar to yours has amps written on it so I suspect it was some kind of power cable for the old unit.

one of them looks like one i have spare. the back of the head units a mess really, i need to get it sorted.
have you still got the clarion or bose amp still in your dash to the right of the glove box or did you take it out or never have one in the first place?
im sure some sevens didnt come with front speakers etc and there were two upgraded options, the bose and the clarion, i may be wrong, just read that somewhere, i'll try and get a shot of my head unit today
cheers mate

The bose hifi was a option on my model but was not fitted I had the clarion head unit, so didn't have the amp. I believe is was removed by the company that fitted my new amp. It depends on what version of rx7 you got. I think it was the type rz which was the lightweight all out race rx7 that had very little extras as standard to keep weight the absolute minimum. I don't know where i have the info but I thought that it was rear speakers they didn't come with not front's as well.
What rx7 is it you've got. ??

mines the type r
good on you with the rz, heard very few were made you lucky thing!
heres a drawing i just made, its really awful so dont laugh just wanted to make it clearer for everyone what i meant
the black square at the end of the cable is what i meant as the mystery cable, its hooked up to the head unit by an iso and all the coloured wire go into the black cable which isnt hooked up to anything!
i thought it was the fronts they didnt come with because there's places where you have to buy the holding for the door speakers, ah well we may both be right with so many versions lol.
anyway heres my disgrace of a pic, im gonna go dismantle my car now for a look, i'll post a decent pic up later!
cheers

Have you taken the door panels off and made sure the front speakers are connected?
When I got my car they weren't working (standard "BOSE" head unit), so I took the doors apart, and strangely they had been disconnected.
Plugged them in and they worked fine.
If you badly need more pictures I could charge up the digi-cam and take some of my standard BOSE unit. It is a two-piece affair taking up the whole double DIN slot, but it's a :censored::censored::censored::censored::censored: to get all the plugs back in if I pull it out ;)
