Well picked up the LHD Gen 1 mentioned in a previous thread today! Nice car, we had to remove the immobiliser as the key chip was missing so much removal of dashboard was required  To cut a long story short got wiring back together, connected a spare battery and it turns over but won't start. took out plugs, turned over cleared a bit of standing fuel and but cracked a plug getting it back in so don't know whether it'll start yet - I have my doubts I'm sure it won't be that easy. Anyway more stuff for next weekend! If anyone can think of other things to check I'm open to suggestions! After all this car has been on Axel Stands for the best part of a year!
cheers

Well Chuffed today, the Gen 1 started after a call to Matt at RX Motors! Cheers Matt:)
Runs as rough as an old shed, but considering she hasn't been started in 1 year and the way to start her involved pouring oil in the carb it's not surprising that she smokes and splutters a bit, but we have a runner! :D
Should be giving it a bit of a run at the w/end to try and clear the pipes so to speak, then time of a new exhaust as the on on there at the moment has more holes than a PG Tips Pyramid bag!
well there u go just thought I'd share my happiness with the world!

seems to be but not a GXL-SE as it has the 12a engine. Has all the other nice bits, A/C BIG stereo etc but good little project car!

LHD makes it much easier to fit a turbo 13b engine cos the steering isnt in the way. I had to change the steering on my 1st gen to get the 13b TII engine in.

what did you do to the steering ? did you keep the box or swap to a rack ?
I've seen a US car with a complete gen 2 subframe and front suspension fitted to it ... doesn't look like it was too hard a swap either. (obviously much easier to drop a 13b in then)

Hello All
Mark (sadgoth) and I finally got the LHD up and running around the road today, the smoke finally cleared and she starts and idles now and has no sticky clutch which we expected.
Next steps are to refurb the brakes and replace the exhaust and generally get it MOT ready.
Any ideas on where to get a decent exhaust from would be appreciated, and also some pointers on how to identify why the power steering will not work..(belts are OK as is fluid).
Will try and put some pictures up at some point.

Well, the plot thickens! Car is almost back together, weird electrical glitches (indicators not working and internittent rear wash wipe) have been sorted by sanding the contacts on all the fuses! Sorted the cosmetic rust on the underside :) waxoiled (now that is a nasty job! especially when you are lying under the car sanding the sills and your project partner sprays it all over your hair) so all we need now is a front right brake caliper and a SS exhaust system from manifold down, (both of which I'll try and pick up from RX Motors next week) :cool So if we can get her through her MOT she'll be ready for Rotorstock, wanted to get her down to Japfest, but too late to get another car in! oh well, I didn't think it would be sorted as quickly as it has been. There is a bit of cosmetic rust on the roof round the sunroof but that is for later in the year, then it'll be time to respray!!!:D
Anyway though I'd keep you all updated
Mark
