Hi guys..
I'm looking to buy a 3rd gen RX7 in the next 2/3 months and hence have been trying to get some insurance quotes to work out how badly raped i'm gonna get. My major problem is that I'm only 21 :-(
So far I've just been doing online quotes and have been unable to get anyone to quote me on an import what-so-ever "call us" etc.
I tried elephant on a UK RX and they surprised me and came back with a touch over £1,000 with a car value of £9000, 10k miles a year parked in a residential parking area. So if worst comes to the worst at least a UK model is viable :)
Just wondering really how much difference I can expect to see in quotes for imports when i start calling these guys up. i was thinking at worst it'll be double vs a UK model??
any feedback you guys could give would be much appreicated!!

A lot of places just outright refuse. Elephant when I spoke to them wanted about £1000 + extra. Its just the normal insurance company BS.
Ask them for reasons why and point out how all the reasons they give are are irrelevant

I read somewhere that they load the policy between 20%-100%, so suppose it would all depend on the insurer, if you find one thats closer to the 20% figure let me know :D

The thing about saving money on your insurance by buying a UK car is that the UK cars tend to cost more. So what you save in one part you spend more in the other.
If it is just a case of you can afford it but cant get insured on a JDM car then buying a UK one will help.
UK cars are scarce though, only approx 124 were sold in the UK.

You hit the nail on the head there steve, i'm pretty much prepared to be held to ransom by the insurers, as long as its below £2.5k (thats the figure in my head at the moment anyway!)
yeah i noticed a distinct lack of UK cars when i've been looking about, i dont really want to spend more than 9k, but may go to 10 at a push for the right example.

UK RX7 for me was around £800, chnage to an import and no-one gets below £1000. Excess changes from £200 to at least £450 as well.

Sorry to contradict you - but I did :)

Sorry I meant none of the insurers I called would give me a quote below £1,000
Bear in mind I was intending to use as my everyday car.

hey Joel,
just wondering how you're getting on? i'm in a v similar situation to you, no RX for me just yet (soon baby, soon!) but i'm also trying to work out just how much it's gonna set me back on a regular basis.
with these quotes are they the one-off payment price, or the total of the 12 monthly installments? is there a difference?
finally, how much ncd do you have? how long have you been driving? sorry for all the probing questions!
thanks
