Anyone know if its normal to need choke on for half an hour/all the time?

My car genaeraly stalls without choke if you don't feather the throttle at standstill.

It wants to idle between 500 & 800rpm.

I got no manual so I'm unsure as to how to adjust the idle speed - dont realy want to start randomly turing screws on the carb.

Any ideas? (plugs, leads & dist.cap are new)

Is the choke arm fixed?

When i had it I used a peg to keep it out a bit further until the engine was warm.

Did you change the plugs leads etc? they were only changed in November.

Yeah the choke is still knackered (your green clothes peg in full effect), I didn't change the plugs or leads cos I could see they were new.

Gonna change the starter & the oil+filter this saturday.

Do you know where the fuel filter is?

Man I'm clueless about RX7s, dont even know where the sump plug is yet! Useual place I presume.

So do you as a previous owner, know when it last had a rebuild?

I'd love to know how much life its got left.

Ahh the green peg , never left home without it. I never changed the oil so i'm not sure where the filter is.

When i bought it there was no engine history so i'm not to sure how long it may go. I thought the engine was the best bit everything around it kept breaking! Its got new clutch slave and master cylinders and the exhaust cost a bomb. You should have great time with it once these little bits are done - it looks great, the guy u got it from did a good job tidying it up.

Ps it had a DVD player and screen in it when i sold it - r they still with the car?

If you can find the clutch slave cylinder the oil filter is near there.

tHE FULE FILTER.
Get the car up on stands/ramps.
Crawl under it, just infront of the diff. On the left hadside, in the wide part of the transmission tunnel are a couple of cover plates, mounted with bolts and grommets. attached to one of these should be the fuel filter, the other one carrries the pump.

If it helps at all, I've got the Haynes manual which is supposed to cover '1979 thru 1985' models ( yet manages to miss my 1982 Savanna!), and a 1979 Workshop manual. I'm sure I could photocopy bits for you if you want this?

Also, it may be worth trying:

Kevin would seem to have put a manual on the net - he's a very helpful guy. It's a bit puzzling though because the url says it's an html page but when I tried to access the 12a engine section it tried to download a .pdf file - and failed for some reason. There's a 13b section also.

My phone's acting up though, the BT men have been up a pole nearby all afternoon. It's been blowing a gale too so I imagine they've had their forelocks frozen off.
