After having my renewal price through from elephant, double last years quote at £2000 (and that was for 10 months!), have been shoping around.
Just got quote from Admiral, £964, 12 month cover :D
Thats with me and my Dad (both have our own cars so gotta make the most of it ;)), me being 22 with 6 points, on a twin turb import. Pretty good I think.

Quite a few mods- Ecu, exhaust, bodykit, alloys, filters
No claims, one non-fault accident last year

oh, forgot, have only got 3 points now, but they always ask for convictions in the last 5 years even though speeding points come off after 4 so i guess the 3 i've had taken off are still contributing to my premium

two interesting points here...
a) Admiral ARE elephant so isn't that odd that they can do it cheaper..
b)They told me they don't cover, have never covered and will never cover any kind of engine mod, ecu included EVER... they truely do chat it don't they...
nice price anyway!

Elephant told me when I tried them for a quote today that they wouldnt insure cos the ecu (or chipped as they called it) increased the power by more than 25%

well that's exactly what they told me too. I phoned Admiral shortly after as I thought they were talking hash and they said exactly what I typed before... they have never and will never insure any kind of engine modification....
I dunno I just think they make it up on the day

strange....i filled it all out on online form, and he asked me about ecu on the phone, i said 11-25%. Then he said what sort of power increase would that be in bhp terms, i said bout 20-30bhp and he said fine, no problem.
You watch, i'll go to buy the quote (havent done it yet as im just checking a few other companies) and they'll say 'sorry we made a mistake'....wouldn't be the first time that has happened to me:reallymad
eg elephant, £900, no £1800, no £4000, this was for me to insure on my own when i first bought the car.
Found the car when it was on 900, then got told it was 1800, bit of a bummer i thought but still managable so i put down the deposit for the car, then a few days later i rung about something and got told it was £4000!! 'But ive just bought a car based on your quote' 'erm.......sorry sir, your quote is now 4000'. Needless to say if i posted what my reply was it would get moderated!:D
Not that im still bitter about it or anything......
In response to the thread 'Whats the worst bit of a RX'
INSURING IT
Andy (fingers crossed about Admiral, the seeds of doubt have been sown....)

Gerry, i make 25% a little over 66bhp, surely you can get away with 11-25? or are you running a monster map on it :D

so if elephant and admiral are one and the same, it makes elephants excuse for renewal being so high, underwriters have changed there policy on young people and fast cars, look pretty weak.
I think im gonna stop chatting and get this policy bought before the admiral guy speaks to the elephant guy :rollin
lol, make it up as they go along...........I really do think it is pot luck, id hate to work for one, you'd never know what your doing:D

Well its qouted at 340 approx by miguel. I'm 28, Plus I have 3 points, 3 claims all my fault, 2 in same day*L*. never tow an incorrectly loaded car transporting trailer & only a yrs no claims, cheapest I could find was norwich union thru a broker on a 4k mile limited mileage policy & that still came out at 3 grand

that's crap too... both are underwritten by "general insurance"

Rememeber about 10-15 of that will be exhaust system, and nearly the same for any induction kit. so take that off and the ecu is doing under 66bhp:). rememeber there on higher ron fuel over there too, plus if your ecu is re-programmable power is what you want ;)
