After many months of hard graft, we've finally finished our first NA 13B Rotary Powered Mk2 Escort Rally car.

Where in the rpm does it make peak power?
How much is the peak power?
Really interested in the spec of the gearbox, how much power/torque can it handle is it dog toothed?

The power comes in at around 3.5k and pulls all the way round to 9k.

We still have some tuning to do but at the moment it's putting out 230BHP at the fly (200BHP at the wheels). It will be approx 300 once we've finished with it but we had to get it ready for this weekend's rally and the noise level restrictions only let us get it to 230BHP in the timeframe we had. Next week we'll start modifying the intake and exhaust length so that we can get the power to where it should be.

If it were purely a track car then we could just run one exhaust silencer and easily obtain the 300BHP we are aiming for. Unfortunately rally noise restrictions are tight so we need more time to tune it and keep it quiet.

The Drenth gear box isn't Dog toothed (Drenth do make a dog box though) and can handle 400Nm of power. For more info, see here: http://www.drenth-gearboxes.com/

yep you are probably no where near its power pontentential, seen a few dyno graphs where PP peak power is around 10k-11K rpm, awesome power for a 1.3 NA you got :D

Looks awesome, very nicely finished. Must be quite fun, esp with the sequential shift! I see the Silverstone stickers, is it actually being/going to be rallied?

Personally I think the triangle in place of the ford grill badge looks awful but apart from that, very cool :) Who did the cage out of interest?

Oh, and re. the boot lid; theres only 1 'n' in tuning ;)

Yep, it's being rallied through Sherwood Forest this weekend (entered in the under 1400cc class). We have a very experienced Forest Rally champion at the wheel so we should do well.

The rotor badge was a last minute addition just to be different and get some attention but I must admit, it could be better.

With regards to the spelling on the boot lid, our sign writing guy seems to be a bit awful at spelling (don't quite know how he's in business) as he originally spelt all of the graphics for the entire car wrong. We had to make him redo them all before we could put them on the car but we must have missed that one!! LOL

The cage was fitted by ourselves.

I cant think of a better car to put a rotary in, the MK2 Escort is one of the great rally cars, i had an RS2000 and could throw anywhere such good handling.
It must be awsome with what you have done with it, would love to see it in action.

Hopefully we'll get some video of it this weekend and put it on the site so you can see it in action.

WOW, what a quality job!

Could i be cheeky guys and ask if you think you will encounter any probs running in the under 1400cc class, i am in agreement with you that the 13b is a 1300cc. The only reason i ask is i have a friend running a GTM kit car with 1600 vtec unit and with the proposed new rules re cars allowed to enter he is looking at alternative options for the future, perhaps a mx5 with a 13b but doesnt think it will wash with others that the engine is 1300cc??

That's correct!

so how the rallying went at the weekend ??

It was great, even though the car's down on power at the moment we were doing really well in our class (and there were Works cars in our class too). We were 3rd in class behind 2 works cars when the clutch went 200yds before the end of the last stage. Gutted was not the word!!

We've got a Group N clutch coming from Exedy now instead of the twin turbo one we were using so it should fare much better next rally (hopefully with more power too!!)

quality workmanship there!!!! so refreshing to see a top escy with a decent engine. Up here on mull there are a few £50k plus escorts and there engines are all bout £20k or more and they only put out 300-ish hp too.
