I need a starter motor for my '83 rx-7.

I have just phoned a Mazda dealer, they couldn't give me an accurate estimate because I didn't have my chassis number to hand, but the bloke gave me a rough estimate of..........wait for it................. this is impressive ............................ £400

My initial reaction was :rollin then I asked him to repeat it, and I checked that he was only giving me a quote for the starter motor and not the whole engine. And yep, £400 'roughly'.

Now, this provides me with a problem, you see, I only paid £200 for the car. On top of this, I only use the car for this

sorry, I know I keep showing this picture, but you know how it is

Anyway, Seeing as I don't have £400 I was wondering whether anyone on here can point me in the direction of someone that has start motors for sale for a much, much more reasonable price??

If you look up CAR ELECTRICS in the yellow pages you should find plenty people that will recondition the unit for you. You should pay between £30 - £60 depending on how bad the unit you have is.

Normally on starters it just the bearings or the solenoid and these are repaceable without the expense or replacing the old unit.

Hope this helps

Hi Rob,
Ring Tim at RX motors,01725 516462
tell him Carl sent you.
He will have a secondhand one for reasonable money.
He is a top guy with prices and parts.
Kind regards
Carl

Donato/Carl,

Thank you both for you quick replies. I had thought of reconditioning, but wanted to know if anyone knew anyone reputable.

I have spoken with RX Motors, and have arranged a starter motor through them :)

Thanks again!

I need a starter for my 85 RX.

It still works intermitantly in a noisy/worrying kind of way, but i do need a new one.

Think they'll sort me out one?
