Hi all

I have a 1991 turbo 2 which will not start. When I turn the key the car makes one click and then shorts itself out. I have to disconnect the battery and remove the fuse for headlights and put the fuse back in for the electrics to flow again. The car has recently had a new engine, battery and starter motor but the car in jinxed with electrcial faults. Can anyone give me some info of how I can get the car started?

For starters as its had a new engine then check all the earths, especially the small one on top of the gearbox by the clutch slave cylinder, the large one thats bolted to the starter motor top bolt and then all the other small ones by the front by the battery and again on the other side under the air filter box. The smaller ones should not affect the starting but none the less worth a clean and reseal anyway. It might be best to take the starter motor off and check the motor on the deck with some jump leads and see whats happening. It sounds as if the solonoid is not fully doing its job or the motor has seized, taking it off will soon show.
Does the engine turn over at all? have you tried to bump it a little when its in gear and then try to start it? seems quite common for these motors to fail, most of the worn engines take it out of the poor little thing as they require a lot of turning to start and of course new engine or not make sure you can physically turn the engine over by hand.
Once you have done of the above, report back and we can go from there.
