Im wondering if anyone on here can give me some solid advice. Im looking to purchase a 3rd gen twin turbo. Mostly seem to be automatic? How does the auto perform in comparison and are these models any less desireable?

Cheers,

Paul :D

Paul, from tests out on the road when some of us come out to play, the auto’s are more than capable of keeping up with normal geared models.

I will forward this link on to G11ARY, he has both manual and auto versions. So he would be the best person to speak to.

Hi Dan. Thanks for that. Am new to Rx7's, always had an interest in them and the rotary engine, so thought nows the time to get one. Just the whole mystery as to how the manual and auto compare as unfortunately not having the pleasure of driving either yet :( Ive been offered a 3rd Gen '93 Auto, with a genuine 70k, absolutely mint, red leather etc, all seems mechanically exc, for £4500.Does this sound a reasonable price?

Cheers,

Paul:D

Hi Paul,
I own a 98 auto it's the first auto I have owned and I love it.
When asking these kind of questions it is really down to personal preference rather than one being better than the other. I opted for an auto because it was the only post 95 model that had a sunroof and I like my tilt&slide. The other reason a lot of the roads I travel on to & from work are quite ruff, and the auto has softer shock obsorbers & springs. And last but not least I spend a fair amount of time in traffic driving in London, I previously owned a 2nd gen turboII cabriolet. I used to end up with a sore left knee sometimes sitting in stop start traffic always depressing the clutch, so basically I thought it would be a lot easier driving an auto. The only difference in performance really is take off the manual is quicker from standstill, but both do 160 mph and both go like a rocket especially when floored doing around 80 mph.

Ps by the way £4500 sounds good yet 70k is a lot also and you might have to take into account engine mount wear suspension bush wear shock absorber, as well as engine rebuild soon.
