I know some ppl already are, but it would help when posting to know license state eg how many points and codes and also risk area if it's not to much trouble that way when someone comes on saying the can't get insurance it is easier to say why.
It's all well and good saying your 25 and trying to get insurance, but if you are in my situation:
i have a IN10 :( which means IF i got a quote of £1000 and then said i have the aforementioned conviction my quote would go straight to 1450 due to a 45% loading for that conviction.
Mind you most companies just say goodbye! but thats my own fault and something i have to deal with and i am happy to deal with that punishment.
As i say just a thought

I guess they should just be pleased your insuring it now :p
If you have been driving uninsured though, then you probably have saved the 400 extra they want pretty quick.

Dangglebbits
25th February 2004, 09:18 AM
it varies, i know Drink driving stays on for 10 or 11 years!!! IN10 is three years
i'm sure the info is on the DVLA site

I'm having trouble getting a sensible quote from anyone or an RX (3rd gen) or a Skyline (my other option)
33, clean licence held for over 10 years, MK postcode, 5 yrs NCD(company car) 3 non-fault fully recovered accindents in past 5 years.
All quotes so far are £1000-£1500 with £500-£600 excess on a completely stock vehicle....

Check all the insurance threads out, you must be able to get cheaper, I pay about that and I am 23 on a modded rex

I've tried quite a few already, all pretty much the same, I don't think they like me driving a 1.8 mondeo at the moment

tesco, elephant, sureterm, footmanjames, adrian flux
if they can't give you a cheaper quote than that I'll be very suprised, you have 7 years on me and I have a conviction

there's loads of factors as well isn't it & the black magic that is insurance quotes <a href='http://www.smileycentral.com/?partner=ZSzeb008' target='_blank'><img src='http://smileys.smileycentral.com/cat/81.gif' border=0></a>
Si
PS nothing wrong with driving a 1.8 mondeo (whistles innocently<a href='http://www.smileycentral.com/?partner=ZSzeb008' target='_blank'><img src='http://smileys.smileycentral.com/cat/7/7_5_119.gif' border=0></a>)

as in i was, & still am when i must, driving the 1.8 just before the 7 ETA'd & as long as you have sum previous performance car experiance that shouldn't affect yer ability to get classic policy surely?
But er clearly the points dont help & it's unusual not to of seen the holier than thou attitude that usually comes out when such subjects are mentionned i'm sure we would all be far less sympathetic if we got clobbered by a non insured driver & since such claims wood be paid for out of a pot all policies contribute i guess there is some justice in that yer now paying a big chunk into it ;)
Si (holier than thou mode <a href='http://www.smileycentral.com/?partner=ZSzeb008' target='_blank'><img src='http://smileys.smileycentral.com/cat/8/8_2_84.gif' border=0></a> off. lol)

Unfortunately I have little to no performance car experience, a couple of driver days in a ferarri and maserati don't really count do they????
I've got a slightly tweaked MX-5 but thats only got about 140-150 bhp. everything else I've driven has been pretty bog standard family/company car spec (1.8 petrol, 2.0 turbo diesels)
Now that I'm old enough (or I thought I was) and have the money to buy a 'performance' car I find the insurance is still a big problem...

actaully si - i was clobbered by a non insured driver - and because i had fully comp insurance i HAD to claim for it
and i lost 2 yrs no claims because of that
if i was TPFT then yes - i would have had my car fixed
personally i think if people are caught driving with no insurance - they should be taken into the street , shot , and then a bill sent to the parents !
( ok maybe over the top - but i like my rough justice )

i have insured my TII for £250 ish ( i think )
and thats with a rover 414 as an everyday car
i have got no sports car history at all - so i cant see that being much of an issue
oh yeah the price is for 3K limited milage - no convictions - classic car policy and Fully Comp

£425 fully comp - AON. That's with no no-claims either - haven't had a car for a number of years. Clean licence (essential in my line of work) and zero own-fault accidents. Had to have a Cat 1 fitted plus locking wheel nuts. Had to be in a locked garage overnight too. 5K restricted mileage and I had to have access to another car (wouldn't take my bike into account even tho' I use it every day). It's on a classic policy being over 10 years old n all.
Surprised the hell out of me. AND they gave me RAC Gold cover for £50 too! :D
