Hi,

I have just seen a car in a cars park near me that has ither very shiny Polished Alloy rims or Crome plated?

I have to admit it looked like a coating on them as it seemed chiped on the edge of one.

I am now thinking about geting the center of my split rims done (US look) even though it may make it harder to clean, but if they can be plated it would be worth doing.

Can Aluminium be Crome Plated?

Thanks.

Chris.

chris, you wont get proper chrome plating done in the UK. What he most likely has was diamond cut rims.

Looks almost as bright as chrome, but has a varnish over the top, to stop brake dust getting at it.

There are a few places that can do this, but for it to be done properly they need to split the rim, cut it back, paint it and put it back together.

The one company that I would recommend it Diamond Styling in north London. But they are not cheap.

I have just spoken to a Guy in Manchester that does Chrome plateing, he says it can be done.

How its done is the Alloy is Copper plated first then the Chrome sticks to that.

I belive all the Copper coating is the big problem (making it stick properly) this is why it costs alot and takes a while to prepare.
