Ensure you warm it up fully before taking it out. Check all the things like Oil level, Water level every day.

We use to run engines in for 1000kms (in Oz), but over here people appear to run them in for 1000miles before the first oil and oil filter change.

Keep the revs below 4,000rpm (some say 3,500rpm - or don't let it boost up). Make sure you change up and down the gears a lot, don't just sit on the motorway for 1000miles at 70mph. Vary your speed up and down a little, and/or change from 4th,5th,4th etc.

I love running engines in, one of the best parts of it - as you know the beast is ready to be unleashed after it is run in! :p

Depends on what they have replaced?

If its just you Tips and seals etc that have been replaced then yeh 1000 miles should be enough (bit sooner if its on new Housings) but if its had Rotor Bearings they take lots longer to bed in, people tend to leave the bearings/Side seals if they are not damaged/Worn to save run in time.

From Experiance Rotary's bearings tend to go off Manufactures run in times and apex's should be good within 1000.

don't forget new rotary motors have low compression numbers till they are run in, some guy on an american forum was ready to pull his newly built motor as it had low compression

Just remember this, The better you run it in and look after it the better Compresion it will have (Means more power) and the longer it will last.

Glen is spot on, do exactly that and you should not have any problems.

if you have no records of an engine being rebuilt - but full SH - how can you tell if its been rebuilt ???

without taking it apart ????

Has it done over 60k? LOL

Rx's seem to be going at 60k at the Moment.

Are You talking about an engine in a car or buying second hand?

You cant realy tell even if you did pull it to bits (unless its been ported or 3mm tips fitted), you can do a Compresion test which if its results are over 100psi and are even (both Rotors) then it does'nt make much odds if its been rebuilt or not, if they are even and low (80psi ish) then there is a fair chance the engine has done alot of miles and has not been rebuilt. This is if its fitted to a car but if the Engine has a Box and starter you can do a Comp test it just wont be quite as Acurate as the engine will be Cold.

The next Question is do you know how to Compresion test a Rotary?

Hi Chris,

Ant has some great info. on his site www.reworx.co.uk --> Comp-07 which is a proper rotary tester. He sells these, but they have one in the workshop of course.

Chris

P.S. The Comp-07 look cool but expencive? I still love my Snap-on Comp tester with the Valve taken out;)
