that has to be the sweetest looking non-99 front end FD i've seen. only thing i'd maybe do different is to fit re-a sleek lights instead of C-West...but that's just preference i guess!
interior is especially impressive! love it! :D

Its a Knightsports nose though, so not really relevant as its not a stock one.

yeah, i just meant that it was the nicest one i'd seen so far without the 99-spec kind of bumper, including after market parts. for example, the veilside and re-amemiya kits designed for the 92 RX-7. although looking again i'm not too sure that many driving lights are needed! :)
still wowed by the interior though. red and black is such a great combo! love the dials and sat nav (?) set-up!

erm...kinda preferred it in black...
but what a great site! so many beautiful cars! hey where did you get those mats? i'm guessing they're from your car? :)
also, any more info on the dark blue car on the 3rd page - top line, second car in? thought it was a C-West front bumper at a glance but it's not...right? oh and the red seats in the black number at the end of the line, with the scoot (?) cf bonnet? thanks!! :D

Its DRFT which is C-West. They are supposed to be designed for drifting, so made of a softer material like an original bumper that will flex when it hits things instead of smash to bits like FRP.
As no-one here has one though, who knows lol.

I see. i love this place - just learn more and more every day! wonder what kind of material they use? i was thinking about CF hoods and that problem. surely if the car was involved in an accident the bonnet would shatter everywhere?

Doubt it, unless you seriously went into something. Mines been rolled, slid up the road upside down and is still in one piece apart from some scratches lol.
If it does brake everywhere, then a standard bonnet would be a big mess anyway. If it brakes it absorbs impact. Just dont plan on crashing it. Aero is so expensive here.

Whoa. Was that the same rex you own now? Hope no-one was hurt...
But you're right...I guess an accident big enough to shatter the bonnet would make the bonnet the least of your worries. And you're DEFINITELY right about aero parts being pricy here.

Nah my old one - they dont tend to last after doing that. Bonnet was the only panel that wasnt a mess.
You are right though, if you have one bad enough to makle a mess of everything its not the first thing in your mind so id just go for it.

I see! I was thinking it was pretty unlikely it could be repaired, but then I was wondering how likely it would be for you to have owned 2 RX-7s - so difficult finding the right one, finding 2 of the beasties must be nigh-on impossible!! :)

If your having trouble finding a good one have you thought about talking to Brian ( BNA ELLIS on here ) he's got me a corker ( pics on 'happy little bunny' thread ) on average he was finding a couple of suitable motas a week

Thanks Tintin...yeah, i plan on doing that. Seems like a great bloke and also an extremely competent trader, haven't heard anything but praise from all of his customers! It's going to be a month or two until i'll be in a position to finally get hold of one, so for the time being i'm trying to get a feel for what's on the market and the kind of spec that would suit! ;)
Brian, Miguel @ New Era and Ben Linney all seem to be fantastic, quite lucky to have found this club really!

Wow...just seen your post...car is beautiful, never seen the whole kit on a car before, looks wonderful. Is it a 99-type rear wing or a mazdaspeed Type II one? can't really tell! love the interior too...must be a wonderful place to be!
also, congratulations on the wee man! Must have been a truly wonderful time for you! :)
Tintin

Not 100% on the rear wing , think its a 99 spec wing .
Haven't got the motor yet , should be about a month or two , its getting the clutch done over there before its shipped
It took a couple of months to find a suitable one so as long as you've got enough cash for a deposit he can start looking
By the way check his site out www.rotaryimports.com he's got a lovely black one for about 11k , I was thinking about myself because we wher having no luck winning at auction on the cars I liked , then out of the blue we won the silver one

The wait must be agonising! But good things come to those who wait bla bla! I'm putting a lot of faith in that particular adage just now. :D
Sounds like a really good way of sourcing one...I always thought that potential buyers only had a choice from the stock the dealers have already bought, didn't realise you could directly influence the kind of car they buy from the auctions. Could i be nosy and ask what kind of things you can specify?
Tintin
1st June 2004, 12:05 PM
You can specify anything you want , problem is the more you specify the longer it takes to source
I told Brian I wanted something around a 96 in silver , black or white , with a nice kit something like Cwest or veilside , a few things I didnt want and the budget
We changed a few things along the way and he advised me on a few things
He then sends pics through by email as he finds suitable cars plus any info he has , if your interested he usually calls japan to get more info , you say yes or no on the bid , and he oes for it
Best thing you can do is send him an email or ring him he's a top bloke really friendly , helpful and genuine
oh yeah and mention that it was me pushing his business , he might give me a discount;)

I see. sounds like a really good set-up. i need to make some insurance queries as well (going to be very scary) before deciding whether to go for it or not.
Also, seems like he did a wonderful job considering your request! :D
And yeah, i'll certainly drop your name when the time comes!! :p

oops sorry, meant to also ask what wheels your beasty is wearing? Think they're stunning! thanks! :)

If your anything like me , your looking at about 2k for insurance , thats with 6 points and 3 years no claims
Best place I found was Tradex ( www.tradexinsurance.co.uk ) , they do trades policies and enthusiast policies
They quoted me just over 2k on a enthusiasts policy but it covers me and the missis to drive the rex , my work van , the missis VTR and my megane coupe if I haven't sold it by then , plus I can add any other car that belongs to me , maximum imdenity is set to 10k all fully comp
Other than that speak to AON , they do a deals for club members , have a look on the insurance threads for info
I'm led to believe that my insurance will drop after I have a bit of experience of powerful cars ( i.e. next renewal )
Tintin
1st June 2004, 01:19 PM
not sure what the wheels are , I'm actually not that keen on them myself , but to get a new wide set will cost an arm and a leg so I'll have to learn to love them ,
I've got better things to spend a grand on , like a carbon bonnet

:cool
That's a stunning looking bit of kit and no mistake. Surprised to hear you don't like the alloys, think the really compliment the car. Sure you will grow to like them as more and more people tell you how nice they are!
well unfortunately i'm going to be looking at probably double your premium... :( but i'm also hunting round the insurance section, and i'll be sure to add tradex to the list.
Trouble is, although i have no points/convictions etc, i'm only going to be 24 when i insure the car, and will have been driving for under a year. There's a thread all about it, the guys here are all really nice.
It's a bit crazy to be thinking about it, but i've had my heart set on one for ages...and i'm lucky enough now to be in a position to be able to afford to buy and maintain one. Obviously there's plenty of other things to do with the money needed...but none will give me nearly as much pleasure! :)
Tintin
1st June 2004, 06:38 PM
I wish you all the best with the insurance , I think the fact you have been driving less than a year will cause you a lot of grief , the enthusiasts policy might be the may to go , or if you could blag a trade policy were you dont specify the cars but i dont know how legal that would be , I thought about it but found the enthusiasts policy which keeps me legit
good luck anyway:)

Yeah...a bit of a headache but I think i'll get there. Elephant quoted me £2300, fully comp which i thought was really good considering, like you said, i've been on the road less than a year. The catch was that was for a UK car, and i've been advised an import is always more. On the plus side, i did put some options on the quote (alloys, exhaust&filter).
Still, although it sounds crazy money because FDs are so good value to buy (provided you have someone like Brian source a good 'un for you!) i could put £4k insurance on and still consider it something of a bargain. Well, that's what i tell myself anyway! :D
Tintin
4th June 2004, 03:21 PM
Thats bloody good
I was paying 2k a few years back for my megane , but that was with a recent write off and an old drink driving conviction plus a few points
Even if its 2 and a half for an import its still good
I might give elephant a ring myself , you got there number ?

5th June 2004, 07:27 AM
Yes mate, it's 0870 013 1072.
Just went back to tweak the policy online, but seems like they are having 'technical problems'. Yeah, I did think the quote was really good, hopefully they also cover imports and don't charge too much more for them. :p
Funnily enough, out of interest I looked at some other vehicles whilst i was there, for example a UK-spec supra TT (325bhp I think) was £1700-£1800 (forget exactly but it was at least £500 less). Struck me as a bit odd, considering they're both powerful RWD cars, although the supra was the more expensive car and also the more powerful one.
But at least i'm not a big Skyline fan. Came up as well over £6k for a UK-spec R34 GT-R!! :rollin

Might be worth giving admiral a try if you havent already, there the same company as elephant bascially, and the online forms are the same, but for some reason i got a slighty cheaper quote from them :)
