atlast a mazda club....
i just bought a 1973 616 super deluxe coupe in pastelly yellow Mmmmmm
its my first mazda, normally into 70's datsuns but i fancied a change.
i got screwed on that v8 rx3 that was in glasgow... re rx3 needing saved..... he made a deal with me for a swap with a datsun skyline, then promptlly sold it to some one else whilst i was getting the skyline ready for an mot... never even phoned me to let me know.... grrrrr!!!! so i leapt out in angst and bought the closest thing i could find....
its pretty cool and in very good condition, but it needs lowered and a nice set of wheels to fill those empty arches.... ( and a rotary of course .... eventually)
i rather stupidlly assumed i would be able to bang on a set of datsun alloys and away i would go... but no unfortunatelly mazda it seems have a pcd all of there own.... 112mm if i am accurate with a ruler...
please please tell me there is something out there that shares this bolt pattern and save me from the wallet sucking wheel manufacturers .... either that or has anyone got any alloys that they would part with.... 15" would be great but i would settle on some funky 70's 14"
i also need to find out who to speak to about dating my chassis number, i was told that the car might have been made in 1972 and would enable me to get free tax....
well i am scottish and as rumour has it tight with the pennies
will stick up some pictures when the sun come up...
cheers

well if its like aussie cars, it will be 4x110 mm bolt pattern on the wheels :)
I dont know if you euro guys have anything that bolts on, but to my knowledge, nothing but some really old corollas share the mazda stud pattern unfortunately.
good luck with it, capella/616 coupes are hard to find even in australia, in decent condition.

sounds cool ... we need pics !
unfortunately your stuck with wheels , not many cars came with 4x110 PCD, I think AE86 corolla's came with the same PCD but the offset is way off if I recall correctly.
I don't think its beyond a good machine shop to weld up and redrill a different PCD though ... depends on the design of the hubs really ... + it would have to be somewhere reliable.

Hi fraser,
The wheels of the 1st gen RX7 fit but only up to 1983.These cars had the same stud pattern as the early Mazdas.
After that on the 1st gen RX7 mazda changed the pattern and upped the wheel size to 14".
This means that some 13" wheels would be ok from this era.
Hope this helps.
If you find my RX3 on here you will see what I have done, maybe some one could put a link up for me.
Kind regards
Carl

Nice cars.... Hmmmm i still like the rx3 better but this 616 is growing on me...
here is a rather lame photo ... was taken in the dark when i got home today .... will try and get some during the day but might be the weekend before i get a chance..
i had a feeling the wheels werent going to be easy... ho hum.
the handling on this little beasty is hillarious .... it justs desperate to go sideways.... i think the tyres are a bit crusty,,, but still the 5 link backend is really solid... a little too hard me thinks...
thanks for all the replies....

Although I would not modify a 616 myself, as it would compromise its authenticity, here is a link on putting an RX-7 engine into an RX-2, which might be helpful to you.
The co-owner of my RX-2 just sent me this.

I just had a thought about wheels, if you are not scared to have the wheels modified (widened) and the right car is available in the UK..
wheels from the early Mazda E1600 vans, the ones with double 12" rear wheels and 15" front wheels, the front wheels will fit the mazda bolt pattern, although they are only 4.5" wide, but are 15" diameter.
here is a pic of an aussie 1300 (1000 to you guys but bigger engine) with a 1.4L turbo EFI motor, and running the 15" van wheels.

Nice to hear that there's still some old skool Marsbars in use over here - I was begining to think they'd all rusted away.
Anyway, about the wheels. I've been using Ford rims on my 1300 for over 15 years - I know they're 4 x 108 and the Mazda is 4 x 110- but I've never had any probs, even when doing both road rallies and tarmac stages on slicks.
The only thing I did do though was to convert all the hubs to studs rather than use the original bolts.
Good luck and look forward to seeing some pics of the finished car
Cheers,
Rich

cheers richard
never thought of that.....
i suppose 1mm difference on each stud doesnt amount to much...
cheap wheels atlast...
i much prefer studs ... bolts are fiddly things when your trying to get the wheels on... think i might just do the same thing...
excellent feels like a weight of my mind...
will try and get some decent pics tommorow...
thanks

having a few problems with it flooding but i think someone has put too high a pressure pump on it and its blowing the needle valve open..
looks nice and clean but the rear arches need lots of work and someone has re-skinned the doorbottoms badly with loads of filler ... a few nasty bodges here and there but the underside has survived more or less intact... just a bit thin around the original sills ...
cheers

Hi Fraser
Thanks for the extra pics , really is an impressive car you have.
Fingers crossed that you will bring it to Rotorstock so people can see it in the flesh

hi, sorry if digging up an old thread like this is really bad form but was just wondering how the 616 coupe was going these days. Still stock or rotorised. Either way hopefully still kicking along nicely.:)
