hi all

i looked at an rx-7 K reg, import. I have looked at all the buying guides for the rx-7 but non mentioned anything about a light grinding noise comming from the water pump(i think). the noise came from the right hand side of the engine bay, between the engine and the intercooler. Any ideas

heres a list of all the problems i could find:
-dash still in kms
-wires loose on the inside, drivers side
-dirty oil
-no petrol(i heard that petrol in the tank should always be at least half way)
- strange noise
- automatic gear box:( (i know i cant change that)
- It was serviced at MAZDA, who kindly put Magnatex into it( is that bad, i heard that synthetic oils dont burn properly when injected into the rotors)

Good things about it
- mint body
- 90000 kms with a rebuild from wgt costing £5500 at £4500
- 1 yrs warrenty on the car inc. the engine
- £6995 windscreen price the dealer told me that there will be a huge chunk off( after i slated all the cars problems)
- £6000 max after discount i think

I couldnt test drive it as there was no petrol. Is there the same 3k rpm hesitation in an auto?

heres the car im off to see on monday(its in autotrader)

Hi Rich,
Pre 94 models had a recall for problems with water pump, this was erctified on 94 onwards models.
Dash in km is normal for rx7's imported but it should actually read in miles if you take it for a spin, get them to verify this and that it has been derestricted.
I thought magnatex was in both synthetic and mineral maybe i am wrong, but it shouldn't really matter just drain it and put in mineral.
Petrol below half way is fine, what you don't wnat to do is have the petrol real low and be throwing the car around bends and corners etc.
What strange noise from where wheels, engine, gearbox, diff ???
Nothing wrong with an automatic, but if you really don't want an auto then I think you have mention enough about this car to put you off buying it anyway.
I have a 98 auto and have never noticed any hesitation at 3krpm
