Right, I've finally given up trying to get insurance for a FD Rx 7. I've been told if i want one on classic car insurance for 5k miles a year i am too young. I've tried all the main comapanies that have been mentioned in the club and i just get the same responce.
All I get told is that they will not insure the rx7 to anyone under 30.

I'm 25, with 4 years NCB. I drive a group 18, 200bhp car already (for less than £1k FC on normal policy, owned it for 14 months) with no points, one non fault minor bump in 2001 and I'm still too young.

I could go with Tesco for 1300 per year on a standard policy, but i travel too many miles to just own the rx7.

I think they are Daft, I've spent 2 months ringing round getting the same brick wall. If i was such a big risk wouldn't i have points on my license and crashs as long as my arm.

Just to put it in perspective, i can insure a VX220 for 750 quid no questions.

So have they all lost their sanity and are they cowering behind the settee afraid of insuring somebody on the rx7 or anything faster than a roller skate ??????????

Well why not insure it with Tescos then and get a cheaper 2nd car to insure?

and I am with tesco for £1400.00

was previously with elephant for similar amount

Drove a Clio 1.4 for 5 years.
Have declared _everything_ modified on the car, mostly cosmetic.
Alarm/imobilliser/tracker and garaged.
Limited to 6000 miles per year.

£1200. (Tesco quoted me £5000+ )

cheers, i'll try them compainies.

The main problem with the second car, which i almost did with my fto gpx was i was gettin silly quotes for the second car. If i went with tesco i wasn't able to use me ncb on other car making it alot, around 500 quid for a small car !

I'm currently with Adrian Flux and they gave me a quote of 3500 for an FD. I tried Chris Knott and they just said their policies had changed to over 30's. I rang AON and they said the same.I then rang round a few more and just kept getting told i wasn't old enough, before i even gave them my details

I will see what i can get sorted ! maybe i'll be able to get it sorted, or i'll go silly with my fto till i'm 30 ! maybe they won't mind a vr4 twin turbo 2.5 v6 in an fto, lol

have you tried AON etc as the joy of the classic car insurance is it dont use yer NCB so that's still free for the 2nd car..:D

AON where really blunt with me, it went :

"hi do you do classic insurance for a RX7 gen3"
"we do"
"im 25 is that ok?"
"er no we dont till your 30, bye"

Shaun that's :censored::censored::censored::censored::censored::censored: make sure you speak to Adam Siviter @ AON i think it is who deals specifically with the RX7 deal & as long as yer 25 or older have a second car garage & dont mind limited milage policy then you should be in for a decent quote from my experiance http://www.click-smilies.de/sammlung0903/grinser/grinning-smiley-018.gif all as i recall anyhow & i just taken mine out & i am but 26 lol

I asked for him, but he was on his lunch at the time. So I asked the basic question to the guy that answered the call, and he told me the 30 year old rule !
I'll Ring them again on monday and if the do give me a quote i'll ask why i was fobbed off by a member of their staff.

At last some good news ! I've rung Houghton and they have given me an amazing quote for a FD.

Almost fell off my chair at work ! They said that with all the usual stuff with the classic insurance limited to 5k a year will cost me £585.

I think i'll seriously look for an FD now, try and swap my fto for as little as possible and get a diesel for work !

Cheers, Now on to the next step, finding a good rx7 !

Does anyone know if Houghton insure under 25's?
Looking for a more 'mod friendly' insurer so i can get myself into more debt:D

Chris Knott was the first place i tried and they were really sorry that they couldn't give me a quote at 25, they where struggling to get classical insurance for under 30's.

My post code seems to be the biggest factor in my quote. 2400 at my address and 1700 at my mums 1 mile away. This is in basildon in essex though... If i bought an rx7 and a house with a low risk postcode (around 1300 quid should be poss), the reduction in insurance for my two cars would leave me with nearly 2k to pay for the extra for the mortgage cost over the rent!

hmmm...

I was with elephant and got quoted £1300 so took it, then they cancelled as I couldnt provide a registration number in time. Took out a new policy with them, exactly the same last week and it was £640:confused: I have no years NCD and 24, also got 12 points.

Thats for a standard RX7, thats currently awaiting registration, so once I know the mods I imagine it will go through the roof. They must have made a mistake, cant imagine it is right. But I cant argue they have all the right details so far.

Elephant really don't like engione mods so be careful

I am pretty sure they don't insure turbo timers or induction kits for starters

Luckily turbo timer, gauges etc are still off the car so its only got a bodykit, wheels, filter and exhaust but I dont fancy telling them that until I hunt around for a decent quote with all the bits.

davefrith

er....well if its got body kit and mods they really need to know asap I would think :)

Im insured with elephant with mods as listed in my sig.
Only thing they had a problem with was the Apexi intake, but that got resolved. Strange how they percieve an induction kit is modifying the engine so they wont insure it, but an new ECU is fine:rolleyes: , oh well, mods added about 25% to my policy
