this is really bizarre. I just called AON for a quote for a 92 modded RX-7 under thei classic policy. Wife and I, pleasure use only, second car, garaged. He asked what each of us had as daily transport (apparently we both need to have a first vehicle even though my wife works from home and I work at university 3 miles away from home). I told him that we have a family motor (the Mitsu Delica) that my wife uses mainly, and I have a motorcycle that I use as my daily driver. He said their insurance comp will not accept a motor cycle as first vehicle as people don't ride them when it rains or snows (WHAT???)! What a heap of dog poo - I ride mine whatever the weather - it's an enduro bike with knobbly tyres. He said we need ANOTHER car (ie become a 3 car family) like a clapped out Fiesta then he could insure us for just over £400 FC.
Now thinking about this I guess it doesn't make sense for me to insure with them as I'd have to pay £100 for an old banger, £160 a year car tax on it, and £100 a year insurance on it. So then we're up to about £800 all in so I s'pose I'm better off with Insurance Factory (£640) who said we only need one car as a first car.
Oh well!

I can understand there reason, they are thinking if you insure it on classic it will become a daily for one and the Delcia daily for the other, a cheap way for a couple to insure a car, get them to quote for you as only driver, then they wont bother, if your wife has insurance on other is she really bothered about drive RX, is would be covered 3rd party if she did drive it anyway.
My girlfriend drives mine but on her car insurance as she is to young to get insured in the RX.

since it's over 10 years old can you not get classic car insurance with most places? Dunno whether the 2nd car/bike thing would still be an issue???

We seem to get responses from all insurers depending on the postion of the moon and day of the week.
My experience with AON ........mmmmmmm...... trying to think of words that won't get the post pulled.
No can't........

you trying to up yer post count Clive http://www.gamers-forums.com/smilies/otn/happy/11zwinky.gif lol
In all seriousness thou i think it's fair to say that most insurers get fluctuating reports/quotes with similar or same people & they fluctuate even more when peoples details do vary so it's horses for courses n all that but for me AON were the daddies & i luv it baby, well i'd luv it even more if they, (editted to add not AON!lol), could get my damn car registered before the cover note runs out http://mindscraps.com/s/contrib/dvv/po.gif but that's another story & cant blame the insurers for it taking so long..........Any ideasi think i'll blame the politiicans ooohh & the traffic police that's always a good un http://mindscraps.com/s/cwm/cwm/laugh.gif lol

Frankly the way AON do business is a mystery. The MX-5 OC use them, like many, but obviously put such numbers of quotes their way while failing to do much business that one of their sales directors is even on the email list to help out.
Most people find them uncompetitive at which point on mentioning it on the lsit, the sales director responds and asks them to contact him direct. From what I can tell some do go with AON after that, but not all.
For tuned cars and track daying they used to be very good, but these days we're back to the mystery quote situation. I never know whtehr my next quote on my highly modified MX-5 is going to be good or silly - the last time I insured it they totally forgot about the super charger and all the extras that they have full documentaiton on
Having said that - they do have a very good reputation for paying out AND they do cover the extras you tell them about (unlike most).
