Just getting quotes on a 1995 RX7 Type R

£1460 with Tesco is the best so far!!

Anywhere else worth trying?

A lot of places won't insure under 25's on imports now :-(

If I had that quote, I would pay it. Seems pretty good. Id just make sure thats definatly on an import.

Im not sure if youll find anywhere cheaper. The only cheaper places I put about 1k on when I said it was an import.

sounds about right judging by all the other threads on this subject.

I tend to find that insurance quotes tend to depend on whatever the operator had for breakfast that morning and what alignment the planets happen to be in at that particular time ... ie. its different every time you just have to ring round them all and pick the best deal

yeah you'll find differences but negligable IMO when compared with what yer getting them on i was paying £1500 on a UK scooby @ 25 with 3years NCB only last year

I spoke to one of the insurance companies listed on here, they refused to believe me that my quote of £1460 at 21 was for an import!

So much so i had to do it again online to prove it to myself, it even says Mazda RX7 1994 Twin Turbo (IMPORT) Type R

At least my mind is at rest there..... i definitely want one now :)

Check the CC on the Tesco website mate, it may be 2414-ish and not 2616.

What cover is that for was well?

I got quoted 1200 odd from tesco FC at s5 with Full no claims on a 93 Type R.

Dave :)

Davegtt
13th January 2004, 03:24 PM
Thats meant to say 25 not s5 :)

nickg123
13th January 2004, 03:38 PM
I think it may have said 2414 CC - why would this be???

Davegtt
13th January 2004, 03:40 PM
Its a second Gen engine spec rather than a 3rd.

Dave

davefrith
13th January 2004, 03:40 PM
it needs to be 2.6 does it not ?

davefrith
13th January 2004, 03:42 PM
so not the right one for your car chap unfortunately, how much is it with the right engine size out of interest

Dave

nickg123
13th January 2004, 03:43 PM
But it said 1994???

Davegtt
13th January 2004, 03:44 PM
Its best to talk to them on the phone and check to see they have the correct engine size.

The woman I spoke to at Norwich union was quite switched on, I said to her that it was a rotary and she said how they are doubled, i was impressed she actually knew this :)

Dave

davefrith
13th January 2004, 03:44 PM
irrelevent it needs to be 2616

probably won't make much difference

I just done the quote online for Tesco (not using my full details that depresses me).

It certianly does say import (Tesco must want new business, this seems to come and go as they please). It also says 2303 or whatever it was. From my experience of getting insurance last time (about 5 hours on the phone) it does seem that a lot of insurance companys have this down as the CC for the third gen.

I hate this whole CC business, its really annoying. Especially if you get stopped by the police and its all over the place on different documents.

The problem is them not knowing their arse from their elbow and having wrong details for import cars :0

The problem may come up after an incident and you claiming, then the insurance company saying this is not the correct type of car, your not covered.

Best to be sure.

The exact descriptions are:

RX7 (92 on), 2354cc, 2dr
RX7 (IMPORT) TYPE RS, 2354CC, 2DR
RX7 (IMPORT) TYPE RB, 2354CC, 2DR
RX7 (IMPORT) TYPE R, 2354CC, 2 DR

What car is this they're listing then????

I don't know where the 2354cc comes from but at the end of the day your registration document will either say 2.6 or 1.3

your insurance has to match that i would think

(although mine doesen't cos its taxed as a 1.3)

I don't have an RX7 yet - this is why i'm getting quotes first ;)

I'm worried that i can't insure one now...... i was well happy at £1460!

Davegtt

Nick, just ring them up again with your quote ref, check the CC and if its wrong get them to change it, I'm sure the quote won't go up too much.

I recon thats an FD quote. Just that Tescos dont list the CC correctly.

Lee

davefrith
13th January 2004, 03:53 PM
try elephant etc and get some other quotes with the correct cc stated, then you'll know mate

Interestingly i am just about to go wth tesco, and they never asked me the cc just the plate, year and the model

at the end of the day if you give them this info and they have the cc incorrect thats their problem and theres sod all they could do to get out of a claim so don't worry about it

Dave

nickg123

Yeah that's a good point - i just don't like giving insurance companies any sort of chance to get out of a claim...... you know what they're like!!!

I don't see what other car they can be talking about - it must be the FD?

iaint

Just had a bash on the Tesco site... put in my reg no. and got a quote for £720 fully comp. Then noticed that it was for a 1986-1990 car!!! Didn't know they made FDs back then!

Always check, double check and then check again as the insurance company will use ANY loophole to avoid paying at least your part of any claim (i.e. repair to your car) if they can.

My V5 doc says the CC is 2354 - I'm insured with Sureterm. About £1200 FC, I'm 21, 2 NCB - no points

But this is limited to 6000 miles a year and also not my main car

davefrith
13th January 2004, 04:44 PM
why the hell do you have to come along and complcate things mate ?

get back in your box

You know me Dave, just thought I'd throw a spanner in the works :D

Insurance is just a lottery it seems, guess I won the day I called :)

Thinking/almost sure I'm gonna sell the Rx now tho

What will you go to from the RX7 then?? RX8??

JayRX7
13th January 2004, 04:59 PM
Not for me - prob gonna leave getting a decent car for a few months to sort out getting a mortgage and then go back to scoobies I think. Hopefully another  P1

davefrith
13th January 2004, 05:00 PM
rx-8's a bit slow tbh :)

nickg123
13th January 2004, 05:02 PM
As standard yeah..... but i bet they could be quick!

P1 is a nice motor - still look twice if i see one on the road!

That was the other car i am thinking about - WRX Sti V5 Type R - they look so much better as a 2 door!

JayRX7
13th January 2004, 05:07 PM
STi v5 Coupe is what I'll end up with if I dont get another P1.

They are basically the same car apart from a few things. Depends what you want out of a car as to whether to go for a scoob or Rx7.

I prefer the P1 over the Rx7 - for me the 7 is just a little too small inside and practicality wise. Get notcied far more in the 7 tho. The 7 is a good car but for me the P1 is better.

Flamesuit on now :(

scooby is ugly as sin though compared to the Rx-7

baby seat will go in the back of a scooby, nuff said Jase :)

Dave

Yeah your right mate - about the scooby being ugly compared to the 7 that is :)

Def no baby seat in the back of my motor though:p

If I could afford to I'd have the 7 for weekends and the scoob for work.

get a type R over P1 thou i mean they removed the fun bits like DCCD in the P1 stuck a nice lip on it & bumped price up, now 22B there is a good looking scoob http://www.stupid-boy.com/smilies/otn/love/luvlove.gif oooh or a spec C.....
