I wonder if any of you can help with this one ???

Apparently Mazda produced approx. 25 RX7 models as "AMS" (Allan Moffat Specials) with various flares and spoilers and airdams fitted in the early 1980s. In order to race our car with the Group C spoiler we need to prove that this is the case and have a photograph of the Moffat car for that period with the particular air dam fitted.
Do you know how we could obtain this information and are you in anyway able to assist us?

Thank you very much for your help.

Australian homoligation papers, Or look for anything for a " Group C " Rx7.

The Neighbour had one, MFR Peripheral motor and all. He brought it new and did it go!

Moonwrap has a book at home called Mazda motorsport or something like that - got a feeling it has pictures and an article relating to the AMS....

Found this:-

I think the MFR RX7's were based on the series 1 ( The Series 2/3 spoiler is a one piece and has massive overhang, The series 1 kit is slightly stubbier, Doesnt have the "SLR Style" bolt on flares ( Its a Holden Torana thing...) , they were a smooter design, Like the MK2 esky but rounded, and a smaller rear wing.

Moffat brought out the Winged MFR cars, And there were the 13B cars, It gets confusing! ( I have been told the 12aTurbo was used too!) He pretty well got the stuff homoligated ongoing to keep the car one step ahead of the Commodore's and Fords.

Also , The group C regulations allowed for extra sized wings than the road car.

Try to approach Moffat, He will probably help.

I have the spoiler kit in my shed......I only used the spoiler and Rear wing as I didnt want to cut up the car.

My understanding of the AMS was.........

Based on the series-I (78-80) with spoilers & flares. Fitted with 13B engines, mag wheels & a few extra goodies.

Was sold that way to convince CAMS (confederation AGAINST Mazda sports)to allow the 13B engine & body kit for racing down under.

CAMS knocked it back but 12 months later after further lobbying, they allowed the body kitted version but with 12A power.

Confederation against motorsport more like it!
