HI there

Ive been drooling/thinking of getting a 3rd gen RX-7 for a while now. The issue is whether I try to find one here or just go over to neweraimports and ask them to find one for me. Looking around the mileage and cost of the cars when they are in Japan is fantastic, but I really not sure how much you need to add to the value of the car to import it.

If you take newera for example its 900 for them doing the search, I presume but could be well off that this includes the organisation of the trip and documentation when it enters uk. Hopefully Speedo change and delimitation and fog light.

Then what ever cost of boat 1000 ?
Then Tax the base cost of car I was looking at was 6,500 ish so about 1000 pounds.

Then what?

Is three grand about right or are there other hidden costs. One of the benefits of getting an import is that Miguel neweraimports guy knows what he is doing. Which I wouldnt if I was looking for one. I wouldnt know for example if the engine was nearly shot or not. Has anyone imported are there any dangers

Thanks

From my understanding of how New Era operates, the price that you pay is an 'On The Road' price.

Miguel is a true rotor head, and has a very fine RX7 as his car.

Contact him.

Newera from what I understand on there website do both. You can either buy one of there exsisting imported stock at the shown price. Or for 900 quid they will find the car of your or in my case my dreams. :)

The Car I was looking at is very similar to the red RX-7 on Neweraimports. I Was just kind off hoping it wasnt going to be quite as pricey as that. After all that is almost 9 years old now. That car definetly needs the GT wing. Someone stop me before i do something stupid

You're significantly underestimating tax unfortunately :(. Take the Japan price, add on deregistration and shipping costs to get a total. Then add 10% UK import duty (for cars coming in from outside the EU), THEN add 17.5% VAT. So your £6500 car, even if that includes shipping, will cost you another £1900 tax. Don't you just hate the government sometimes? :(.

There is a lot of explanation of the newera prices on their site, you just have to look around for it. I've just put a deposit down on a 94 TypeR (although completing that depends on me selling current cars). From the pic of the auction document Miguel sent, looked like the auction price was just under 1m Yen, which is only about £5200. OTR price in the UK will be £10500. Deregistration, shipping, tax, SVA conversions, SVA test, agent fee. Then add a couple of hundred on top of that for alarm/immobiliser. Still, this compares to a similar car over here, and it has only got 37000 miles on it.

It isn't even in the country yet, and the deposit is conditional on me selling 2 of my current three cars (including a twin bike engine Westfield (http://www.scoobynet.co.uk/bbs/thread.asp?ThreadID=106453) if anyone wants something very mad :)).

Anyway, the car on deposit is nearly as mad looking 94 Type R with Veilside body bits and 18" alloys (I am not looking forward to the tyre bill  ). Miguel has posted me about 30 pics - best one attached.

Once I've got it, I'll probably be looking to add a few nice selected mods so I'm reading this board with interest.

Hi,

I currently have a 1995 RX-7 Type-R arriving in 2 weeks, ok it has the magic 60,000 miles on the clock, but it will have a proper compression test and full service before delivery, the car is BIMTA approved and the OTR price is £9,250. Pic below.

Thanks

Adam.

Adam,

Again Geff at www.reworx.co.uk has the proper Mazda Rotary compression testers. He going to be doing this for you?

Chris was one of the first guys I met in this country who was actually racing his RX-7 on track days. Some pics. here of that day: http://www.mymazdarotary.com/your_mazda_rotary/chris/chris_rx-7_photos.htm

I actually purchased this car from him before selling it onto Gary Gooding. It is a pity that Chris doesn't own an RX-7 now, as it is great to see someone with his skills exploiting the rotary!

He is even on this forum, but I think is too busy!

Reworx is a bit far away for me - I'm East Midlands, so will be looking for someone vaguely local. Not sure where, but I'm sure I'll manage. Any suggestions for a more local specialist?

Cheers

Andrew

Hi Andrew,

Your closest rotary workshop is probably Pip Gardner at www.wgtautodevelopments.co.uk who is very good. He is at Northwich, Cheshire.

Or, as mentioned above in this thread - Chris Wilson also has a bit of experience with RX-7's, he is in Shropshire.

Both I think a bit of a journey for you.

BOLTOA:

So you are the one that bought that RX-7

I am importing through Prestige Motorsport (www.prestigemotorsport.co.uk)

They send me details of all the RX-7's that come up for auction each week and I saw that one come through a few weeks ago.

Awsome buy! I was going to bid on it myself but had only been looking around for a week at that stage so thought I would wait and see what else comes up.

Prestige Motorsport has a price calculator on their site which you can download and calculates the cost of all the import steps including tax and SVA in case anyone is interested.

Great to see it on the roads here.

Cheers,

Unfortunately still not on the road. All ready to be registered (SVA done), but need to sell my Legacy before I can insure it :(. Going in Autotrader/Top Marques this week, so hopefully won't be long. I'm seriously looking forward to it :).
