Hi all,

New to the fourm, looks like a great source of info on RX7's even if it does have more about the FD than FC :o.

Anyway i'm looking at buying a 2nd Gen RX7 Turbo-II for about £1500, but the biggest problem is insurance. I've read good things about Carole Nash on here so might have to give them a ring. Ok heres the bad.. 19 y/o, 0 yrs NCB. Thats where their gonna tell me to sod off :(. Cheapest i've had is ~£1600 TPFT from an online broker. I have been driving for 2 years now on a parents car, and I have the Pass+ (which is meant to make insurance cheaper.. honest). It would be reasonably low mileage and in a low insurance area, & I would plan keeping it pretty stock for a year or two (Except maybe new ECU, Suspension, LSD) Anyone got any idea's or am I just dreaming considering it?

Any help would be most appreciated,

Cheers,
Dave

Dave welcome on-board. I think the best thing to do is have a good look around the insurance folder, there are plenty of good companies recommended.

I would keep it stock for a couple of years to get some NCB under your belt then start modding, as that is when they will start putting the prices up.

Id try getting a classic policy on limited miles. Only trouble is thats not going to get you any No Claims bonus.

Mods - what are they, I just thought it came like this ;)

Thanks a lot for your help guys. Yea I plan to keep it standard (hp wise) until I get near to my placement year at Uni (Mid 2005), i'm sure the fact that I even posess such a beauty of a car is going to make my mates jealous!

I didn't know that you get No NCB on a classic insurance. Depends how much saving there is I guess. Cheers again, will let you know if I buy, :)

Hi Andy,

Funnily enough the cheapest non-classic quote I found was an online quote at 1stquote.co.uk. Havent tried very many places just yet but will let you know. The quote was 2249.81 TPFT. But I called them and they said they would give me ~40% discount for driving a car already for a year and for my Pass+.

An FC is definetely cheaper to insure than an FD though.

Its cheaper to insure an FC due to the way the engine is registeded I believe - some brokers have it listed as a 1.3 Turbo.

Had a quote of £1600 (19yrs, Named driver with his NCB :P)
