I was having a chat with a guy who lives 4 doors down from me and he reckons he knows someone who has a very old audi with a rotary engine in it from way back in the day...

My question is....what the hell could it be? Ive never seen or heard anything about a rotary powered audi....

Anyone any ideas?

Could be the old Auto Union 1000 ?,it does sometimes sound like a rotor on idle...........brilliant 2 stroke sound :Typing

Audi actually did do some prototypes with the rotary in them when they took over NSU,that was in the early 80's,but nothing came of it,they developed their inline 5 cylinder engine instead and as everyone knows,4 wheel drive.

If it's an Auto Union 1000 it'll have a three-cylinder two stroke engine.
