not sure if this is in the correct section so feel free to move..

having looked at my 2nd gen rx7 it seems that it has had the air pump removed !! ??

i have been told that all it does is smooth idling at start up

is this it ??

mine always smells petrolly at start up - is this normal with this mod ??

does it do anything else that i should know about

thanks

its used to feed the reactor chamber with air to re-burn the fuel to make the emmissions better, sounds like you have an aftermarket exhaust if someones removed it.

it should smell a little of petrol at cold start up as thats the cold start fuel map, bit like a choke on a carb'd car

Thats it. The 'split air pipe that pumps through the main
cat. fed from the 'smog ' pump. you can get a block off plate
if you need one.
Word of warning though ...your water pump could slip with
just the one belt on it, get your self a double alt. pulley and 2nd belt or.....
check the belt very often.

Yep, my 1st gen rx7 (1985) had the air pump removed and an aftermarket exhaust. Fitted a new Janspeed exhaust to it shortly before dismantling it due to body rot. Cost about £500.. However, reliably informed the standard mazda one was more like £700.

The engine was very reliable though. Up to 128,000 miles when I dismantled it, though I don't know if it was an original one or not...

Cheers,
Martin.
