Bought red Cosmo cheap of EBay with the intention of using it for spares on my silver Cosmo and using the engine in another project.
When I picked up I decided it was far to good and the Cosmo became my project car. Have been busy reducing weight inside and under the bonnet. Going to keep it fully stripped running HKS T51 KAI, Microtech LT-12S, PWR charge cooler and manual gearbox conversion.

Manifold was for an FD so have made up an extra flange. Need to get some elbows and get extra branch welded in.

great project, you have kept that quiet, seems like you are half way there!
when you say cheap , do you mind me asking how cheap?

I gave £2900 for it. To buy an engine on its own will cost approx £2500

Hi Kev,
The car looks really good condition:Thumbs-up
You don't hang about do you! Reminds me I must call you later this week...
Are you rebuilding the engine at all? And are you tackling the manual conversion yourself?

No cosmo envy here mate as he's only doing what i've already done but with a bigger blower on mine. Just that i've left all the creature comforts in mine.
The project Cosmo has been in Kevs sig for months now, just a bit more detailed now.:Thumbs-up Us Cosmo owners will be out numbering the gen ones at meets soon!

Think you should give the Burnout kitted one to me to even it all up a bit ;):p

Project Cosmo has been in my sig for a few months. Been gathering parts during the summer, so thought I would post an early progress report.
Rob - I bought Mark Harris's car, I was missing the fun of FD ownership. Plus I needed a home for my half bridge that is sat on my bench.
Adam - Not so much greedy more like an obsesion. Just a thought when you get another FD are you going to change your sign on to "gota7" :)

Engine build No is A476. The housings have the Mazda Logo painted Black without a No, which I believe means its had a factory rebuild. Is that correct Dave (DMRH)?

So whats it weigh now then Kev?
Kevin
FD3UK
20th November 2007, 09:27 AM
No idea on weight Kev, but with engine and gearbox out I would have to start trimming metalwork to reduce anymore.
Going to tear down motor to inspect and fit FD exhaust sleeves, need to have a think about what to do porting wise.
How's you car at the moment, still having ignition issues?
kev-yorks
20th November 2007, 07:16 PM
No ignitions fine it all came together eventually. Making good power no idea of figures though but the brakes need upgrading again to cope. They'll be another step up with the engine this winter but i want it finished a lot earlier this time, i don't plan on waiting for parts all year so orders are going in early this time.

Motor now stripped down ready to clean and inspect. Judging by rotor gasket seals and lack of carbon looks like fairly recent rebuild. surprised to see 3 piece apex seals though.

Kevin
Ready to be shot down in flames, but I'm going to put my machining skills to the test and try a semi-peripheral set up. Retaining the primary ports, filling the secondary ports and adding peripheral ports.
Will then machine either throttle bodies or slide throttle with control over when peripheral ports open.
Comments positive and negative welcome.

Started on some small port mods ;)
A couple of pictures and video on youtube, showing machined rotor housing ready to take alloy plug to be convert to peripheral port.
Port will be quite high to try and keep it drivable on the street( i hope)...

Makes me wonder if anybody has done an elongated PP. Surely with CNC machining you could do quite easily and have it like 55x80mm Ob-round. CNC the plug to the relevent shape cut out of a larger blank with a machined boss.
Very cool, long time since I used a milling machine :D

15th March 2008, 05:06 PM
I am going to fit a blank plug then CNC machine a D-port similar to this one.
OD of plug will be 60mm and as you can see I have not machined all the way through housing.
I will be aiming at a smaller higher port by machining a 44mm Dia hole straight through then setting up at an angle to machine flat at exit in housing, but keeping round at the front.

I did notice that ! is the plug just welded into place ? This will give a different sound as well won't it ? Does it reduce the overlap between the ports ?
Can't wait to see how its going :D

I have now machined a scrap housing to peripheral port complete. I have kept it high and tapers from 50mm to 42mm. This is quite small, but I hope to keep it drivable(ish) on the street.
I have also got plugs in 20B housings ready to bond in and finish machine.
