Mine would not start easily from cold, but ok when it got going, no white smoke though, just pushed water out of the engine coolant filler and lots of bubbles, is it overheating? that will distort housings if it is! best not run it for long till it's checked! if your water pump is leaking you could lose water through that and it could be where its going, mine was leaking also after 49 K, but i bought the car knowing it needed a rebuild.
good luck

If your water seals have gone you would have water pushing out of the overflow, and tiny air bubbles in the water filler cap, also and the need to keep topping up your water, and maybe the low water buzzer coming on as well, it might not overheat. but your car would run ok.

It may also be difficult to start when hot. I even found a couple of times it started on one rotor when cold - due to water being in the engine.

the main sign for me (in hindsight lo...i didnt know a water seal had gone when i pulled the engine...i thought it was a chipped apex seal...turns out i had both...well sort of) was white smoke from the exhaust and constantly needing to top up water
Car started fine both hot and cold
